Starting A-new!

Yeah!  I finally got my spirits and butt in gear and have decided to take my life in my hands!  I started a low fat, low carb diet today instead of just idylly waiting for surgery to be scheduled.  When I weighed myself last night and took my measurements I fully realized what the sitting and waiting has done to me. I had gained 13lbs.  But no more!  I am taking the bull by the horns and part of that is making myself more accountable by doing things like posting here.  I'm hungry like crazy but don't care!  I have to do this!

Hiya Alison,      Yeah, modifying your behaviors now before surgery probably makes the post-op period a whole lot better.  If you're headed for RNY, you can start practicing. 1.  Shoot for 100oz of water a day 2.  Start eating 5-6 mini meals each day 3.  Start some daily cardio if you can 4.  Find vitamins/supplements you like for post-op 5.  Identify what your favorite low-fat high-protein foods are      That will give you a real leg up on being prepared.  :-)

Boy ain't that the way...take your eyes off it and boom, more weight! Julie gave some great advice. I use bariatric foods from a local doc (www.carbessentials.com) and these are things that are good.  Okay the high protein soup is an acquired taste, but it's hot and fills me up.  Most mornings I have a high portein cappacino drink.  couple hours later i have half a premium protein bar (read labels - must be low fat, high protein, or at least 10 g protein per 150 calories) The fruity drinks are very good.  Are you checking out rny or lapband? It woudl be lapband for me. I'm doing okay these days with this program. I am only hoping that I can get it that this is forever, pretty much.  welcome!

we are in the same boat. I went through all of the early paperwork for a LapBand and then learned that  my insurance had an exclusion on its policy so no surgery for me. I was disappointed for a few days and I kind of moped around and then I decided that I could still make those same life style changes. I am only 28 yo for petes sake... so I looked up all of the local bariatric centers in Indiana and found that St. Francis offers a non surgical program. It is with a PCP that practices integrated medicine (which takes a very holistic approach to WL). I met with him last week and I am VERY excited. it is a 7 month program that offers all of the things that the surgeons office offered (except the surgery). I will meet weekly with the MD, RD, exercise therapist and behavioral specialist (and God). I can do this... food just has to stop consuming me. I need to tkae over the "eat to live... not live to eat" philosophy. Anyhow, I wish you the best of luck.

Thanks so much for everyone support!  Thanks for the tips Julie.  100oz of water!  Yikes!  That's a lot.  I'm happy with my 64 right now but will definitely not stop there.  At least some things are supposed to go up and up. Yesterday was pretty easy but trying out prot. shakes was mostly disgusting.  However, today, the withdrawals for sugar and caffiene kicked in and I have been struggling.  It is very hard going from probably around 4000cal per day to around 1000cal.  On the up side I actually lost 6 lbs in 2 days.  Because of this, I think my calorie intake may be a little lower than necessary so I'm going to up it to 1500 and see how that goes. Thanks for others stories and support.  It helps to share and see how others are doing and being on the computer is less conducive to eating for me than, let's say, TV!
