Doctors! ARGH! They're so lazy!

How do you find a good doctor who is willing to listen to you about your problems and help you find out what they are other than saying the typical stuff like, "It's allergies, take this.." "Its because you're overweight." "it's because you used to smoke". My wife just went to the doctors about her ears nose, throat and a UTI. She had been takign some antibiotics that were prescribed to her by her previous doctor for the UTIs and he pretty much blastd her for taking them. Ugh.  God I'm so fed up with doctors. I can understand him saying it's allergies but why won't they listen when you tell them, look something is wrong because I'm not normally like this. I wasn't like this last year. It's not my cat, it's not cuz I smoke or smoked. There's something not right!  My wife has interstitial cystitis and gets FREQUENT UTI's. This new doctor has her records from the previous doc but he wouldn't even do any tests to find out if it was a UTI. Damnit that's lazy!  Needless to say we won't be seeing him anymore.  Perhaps if he had been a little more caring and understanding.. Who knows. .anyways.. how the hell do you find a doctor *****ally cares about their job? I mean someone who is passionate about even the little things like allergies or colds!?  I'm so fed up! Male doctors are the worst too.

Specialists - For allergies, see an ENT (ear nose and throat doctor).  They'll look into the problem deeper.  For UTI's, see a Gyno.  Specialists have that passion.  That's why they didn't become PCP's.  Seek out the specialist that you need for your problems and you'll be much more statisfied with the results.

So basically PCPs are useless unless you have an HMO or other insurance that requires you see one for a referral. At least that's what I've found with all of them. Well, there was one doctor that I adored. She really cared and took time to help me whereas the others haven't. I also find that women doctors are so much more understanding. Go figure. I wish her offices wouldn't have moved away, I'd still be going to see her. Anyway, I haven't had much success with specialists either. I haven't really had to see them for much but my wife has always had a hard time finding a gyno who will help her.  Maybe we're just complainers and we expect the doctors to work miracles like House does, lol.  I do think I will skip the PCP on my knee problems and see a specialist. Hmm..What type of specialist do I need for my knee problems?  Sports medicine doctor??  Where's House when I need him!

You need an osteopathologist. They handle bone and muscle issues.  Definitely stick to the specialists.  Maybe your wife just got a bad gyno.  They're not all fabu.  But they're hella better than PCP's.

Hiya Chris,      It depends on what's wrong with your knees, but there are orthopedic surgeons out there that specialize in sports injuries if it's injury related.      Probably 75% of my old practice was knee replacements, knee scopes, and knee injections! LOL

Since you're in the business what do you think about what I've described?  Do you think it's a torn ACL or something different?  I've also learned that if I put pressure on my foot while sitting down and try to drag it backwards towards my chair I have pain in the front of my knee just below the knee cap. The pain doesn't start until the leg is at a 90 degree angle and continues to get worse until the knee reaches an acute angle. (this is my right knee that does this, my left doesn't seem to do that but after I do this maneuver the left knee does throb and stretching the knee out produces a slight pop but not every time lol.) Lol, don't feel obligated to diagnose my knee problems over the internet. I am going to the ortho on the 24th but I'm just curious and I love trying to self diagnose and then compare to what the doctor says. I'm usually pretty good at it!

Oh, your text sings to my femi-nazi heart!  BUTT

I love my male doc PCP - he is not one to toss out the 'scrips and have his hand on the doorknob ready to bolt the whole time I'm in there. It's just luck and shopping around for the right person.  Some of this may be due to your not having a long record/relationship with a family doctor.  When the fill-in-the-blank doctors see a miscellaneous guy such as you are, they treat you like a mechanic treats a car:  oh, makes this sounds, MUST be THIS! as they stroke the beard....in other words, treating the symptoms. Now, my PCP admits when he does this, kind of says, hey sounds like this, let's try this med, etc., but call me if you don't start feeling good.  He also is so ready to refer me when he is in over his head. Sometimes he does when I just ask him too. I do have a GYN also, and she's a girl, for no particular reason but cuz her reputation is HOT for HOT wimmin such as myself. I just want especially a chick doctor to be more understanding of the whole womb scene, cramps, bloat, all other related indignities.

My self diagnosis is a stretched or possibly torn ACL in both knees.  I don't think this is from the running but rather from years of what I call popping them out of socket. It's quite excruciating and basically what it feels like is my calve bone (can't remember the name) seperates from the thigh bone by moving forward. On more than one occasion it felt twisted. Usually I can get it back in place by applying light pressure on the knee with my hands and and a little weight on my foot and slightly twist my leg. Hurts like the beejeezus or whatever you want to call it.  Anyways, looking at the diagram of the knee that's what it seems like to me.  I also have pain on both the inner and outer parts of the knee and all sorts of other pain. lol  I've scheduled an appointment with an ortho on april 24th. We'll see what happens! Neecee I had a relationship with my previous PCP for about 2.5 years.  Each time I went in there it just kinda seemed the same.  He seemed to listen but he was always quick to throw some meds at me and schedule me for my next appointment. He was a very nice guy though. I'll find the right one sooner or later.

I have torn my ACL and I waited a year to have surgery because I was not missing softball not if my life depended on it. So I wore a brace. Since I lef tit for a year and had surgery in the fall I ended up tearing my medial meniscus without knowing from where the acl was torn and the bone rubbed on it and just tore it apart...eh. Painful.  And let me tell you that surgery was HELL!

Both of my knees hurt in the front and on the sides so I'm assuming I've screwed something up. Who knows, I could end up needing surgery like you!  I should have gone to the doctor to have it checked out when I first started having problems with them at like 12 years old but my dad was a man's man and we didn't need doctors. We just pushed on through the pain!  I remember jumping into a pond I thought was deep but ended up being 2 feet deep with 2 feet of mud and "dislocated" both of my knees at the same time. I fell backwards in screeching agony and almost drowned because I couldn't get my legs out of the mud because of the pain. I think I eventually extended my legs and they went back normal again but talk about swollen, bruised and in pain! That was the first serious situation I had. Prior to that I had other times when they just popped or almost went out of place. Since that time I've had this happen in one of the knees at least 10 times. I actually did go to the doctor once; an emergency room but the knee had already went back into place and xrays showed nothing so the doctor said i sprained it because he didn't know what else.  Charity hospital and I had no insurance, so go figure. Sent me home with some Loritabs though! Woohooo!! I intended on this being a short post.....
