Hi, my name is Slim-Shadey! Oh wait, what? Bah, stupid song!
I'm Chris! I'm 27 years old. I have a beautiful wife who is 22, Sherise, and a nephew, Nick, who I take care of who is 19. I have a dog and two cats. I've been married for almost 1.5 years. (Gah, it's been so long!) No kids of our own yet but we've finally both made up our minds that we do want kids we just don't know exactly when yet. (that was a big decision for us because we're very selfish when it comes to our "me" time.) Let's see, I've been overweight since birth (10lbs 4oz) and became obese around the 6th grade. I hit morbidly obese at 21 and super morbidly obese (bmi > 50) at 26. I had completely given up. Throughout the years I've tried losing weight about 5 times. Each time I was successful but never successful in keeping the weight off. I graduated high school in 1997 and became and went straight to work as an electrician's apprentice. I did this for about 3 years until I got tired of it and then went to plastics manufacturing, then clerical, and then retail computer sales. I later moved to Florida and got into sales and telemarketing. (Ugh, those were bad jobs but paid good) In Florida at 21 or 22 years old, I decided that it was time to do something with my life so I visited a school about IT certification. Lost my job, ran out of food, couldn't pay the rent. Finally broke down and called dad to bail me out of my problems after eating 1 pack of ramen noodles a day for a week. He wired me some money and I loaded up my car with all that would fit and gave my neighbor everything else and I set out on my journey to go back home. The car blew up along the way and dad had to meet me about halfway. Finally made it home and got a job working for Auto Zone for 6 bucks an hour. Checked out the local college, took the ACT and got a great score! Got accepted into the college but I missed the deadline for that current semester so I never went. Later I moved back to NC because I thought I was in love. That lasted 2 weeks lol. Moved in with my now best friend. I had transferred my employment with Auto Zone to NC. About 2 months into that I found another job as a car salesman where I had to spend 150 bucks for them to teach me how to sale cars. I always thought that this was a reputable title and I needed something accomlished in my life at this point so I shelled out the 150 bucks and got my job selling cars. I sucked! Lol, I had a few sales but that was it. However, I had made friends with all the ladies in the office upstairs and had begun fixing all of the computers around the dealership. This caught the eye of the owner and the Comptroller, basically the CEO's secretary who runs the dealership. Within 1 month I was moved from sales to the accounting department. Life was going great. During this time I got encouragement from the women in the office to go to school and start losing weight, again. (I skipped the other 4 weight loss journeys because they are rather insignificant.) I enrolled at ECPI and began taking classes. I also started drinking water and a modified atkins diet. My brother became my encouragement during this time because he had lost all of his weight and was now underweight. Anyways, long story short I lost over 50lbs and that's when I met my wife. Fell in love and started seeing less and less of my friends who didn't quite understand that. :) I started a new job in information technology. It was my dream career and I had finally obtained a legitimate IT title of Support Analyst I. I quit smoking in February of 2004 and shot up about 15 lbs in one month and kept going from there. Over the next years I worked my way up through the company to Operations Manager. I answered to only the owners. I also had given up on my weight loss shortly after I got the first title. I got married in October of 2005 to my wife but I had already been married to my career for quite some time. There were a lot of rough spots during our relationship because of this. I had gained to about 315-320lbs when I was married. I was finally laid off from the company because the owner said he could no longer afford my salary needs. Honestly, it was time. I was burnt out and I was a very negative bitter person. I yelled at everyone and hated myself. I had competely given up on life. As pissed as I am about getting laid off I thank that horrible man for doing it. It was my wake up call. I laid out of work for about 2.5 months playing warcraft and grazing the kitchen. I gained up to 230lbs. I finally got a job as an Oracle database administrator which is where I am now. Somewhere along the way my wife pissed me off with her I dont' want you to die crap and I decided I was gonna show her! I was gonna lose the weight just to **** her off. What was I thinking lol? The next day I realized the reasons I really wanted to lose the weight and it had nothing to do with what she said to me. Anyways, here I am. 25, almost 30 lbs lighter about 4 weeks later. Knees killing me but I'm here and I'm gonna keep pressing on. I've learned a lot about myself. I know my boundaries, I know what makes me tick, I know I have self discipline because I still do not smoke and I've completed 2 years of college and now am working certifications. I've made it through my first year of marriage unscathed and I love life again, for the most part. :) It's getting better each day. Now if I can just figure out how to get some work done instead of being on this site! lol Oh, I now have an industry recognized certification behind my name. I'm proud of that! Something I've wanted for a long time. I have some more certs to go but this is my first and I'm happy. :)
