Hey everyone, I have a problem with obsessively weighing myself, and I need to stop!!! How often would you suggest that I should weigh myself?

I weigh myself once a week.  Same day, about the same time, same clothes (naked).

I also weigh myself once a week. That is what I recommend.

I am right there with you, I weigh every morning at the same time, after I pee, and naked as a jay bird. I try not to and I may skip a day but then I'm driving myself nuts wondering all day what the scale would have said. Sometimes I feel like the girl on the oatmeal commercial with the scales chained to her foot. Daily fluctuations don't really bother me that much but if I see it creeping up for a few days in a row, I know its time to adjust the daily menu. Candy

Heya,      It really depends on you.  If you're someone who can intellectualize those daily weight variations from water retention and other things and not be bothered by them, then go right ahead and weigh every morning at the same time after you've gone to the bathroom (while you're still naked).  It's amazing how much water weight you can gain from a salty meal or even something as simple as taking a shower.  Just realize that if you're eating right, it is NOT fat.      However, if seeing the scale go up a pound or two even though you know you've been sticking to your plan 100% is going to bother you, then only weigh one day per week.  I don't recommend weighing less than once a week cause you can do a lot of damage in a couple of weeks from going "slightly off track."        Myself?  I'm Queen of Obsessive Scale Use LOL, but it's a harmless OCD behavior for me, so I don't really try to stop it.  On a day where I'm not feeling compulsive, I probably still weigh 2-4x/day.  On a compulsive day, it's a hell of a lot more! ;-)  But as long as I'm not on a food binge or shopping compulsively, I'll allow myself a little odd scale behavior.

I try not to weight myself more than 3 times a week but I usually crack under the pressure of the scale staring at me. I always weigh in the morning and sometimes at night just to see how my food intake affected me.   What's funny is that if I don't like the number I find myself weighing 5-10 times in a row as if it's going to change.  Sometimes the weight is different with in 1-2 lbs so I usually go with the middle number lol.  I'm tellin ya, it all depends on how you hold your knees and if you look down or look straight ahead! lol  I can shed 5 lbs by looking down! hahah

I usually weigh myself once a month.  Any more than that, and I start obsessing about my food and my weight.   If I weigh myself once a week, then I worry all week how much I'll weigh next week.  Besides, Overeaters Anonymous recommends that we weigh ourselves no more than once a month.  If I do that, then I don't constantly think about how much I weigh. There are many schools of thought on weighing oneself.  There are those that say once a week is enough or you'll get discouraged.  Then there are those that say to weigh each day makes us more accountable and doesn't let the pounds creep on.  As Julie said, it's really a personal thing.  If you can get on the scale 4 times a day and realize your body is going to fluctuate, go for it.  If you go screaming for the fridge and the cookies each time the scale goes up a pound, perhaps getting on every day isn't for you! I think it's all about accountability.  If you KNOW that you are slipping and you won't go to the scale because of that, then you are slumping into destructive behavior of denial which is what got a lot of us where we are, or were. For me at the beginning it was every morning like clockwork.  When the loss slowed down I would maybe go a few times a week, but at least 2-3.  There came a time where I avoided it ilke the plague, knowing I was doing poorly.  But the only person I was hiding from was me, and what does that achieve? I just had my lower body lift and I dare not step on the scale because I am still draining and I know I am retaining water.  But as soon as the drains are out and I am up and about, the first trip will be to the scale!!!! good luck in finding your happy balance.
