What are some good snack foods for in between meals?

I find that I can control my overeating more easily by eating snacks in between meals. However, my meals are usually 400-600 calories so it's hard to find snacks less than 100 calories.  I know I can adjust my meals to lower the calorie count but I just don't want to right now. Are there any other low calorie snacks out there that would be sufficient? I'm not a big fan of sweets but I do eat them from time to time. I don't care much for the sugar aftertaste. My snack for this morning is Jack Links Beef Steak Nuggets. (A Single Serving, 1oz) I find myself eating these all the time but I worry about the sodium. They sure are tasty though! 70 Calories Total Fat 1g,  Saturated Fat 25mg Cholesterol 0mg Sodium 770mg Total Carbs 5g, Dietary Fiber 0g Sugars 5g Protein 11g

Wow, that is a LOT of sodium! I have two that I keep in the office for those 'munchie' needs.  Like you, I don't do sweets.  Quaker Rice Cakes (Caramel Corn flavor) 50 Calories Total Fat 0g,  Trans Fat 0mg Sodium 30mg Total Carbs 11g Sugars 3g Protein 1g Kellogg's Smart Start Healthy Heart Bars (Cinnamon) 150 Calories 25 Fat Calories Total Fat 2.5g,  Saturated Fat 0g, Trans Fat 0g Cholesterol 0mg Sodium 85mg Potassium 350 mg Total Carbs 30g, Fiber 2g     Soluble Fiber 1g     Insoluble Fiber 1g Sugars 12g Protein 3g some additional vitamins and minerals I trade off depending on what I had for breakfast and what I have plannned for lunch. I also keep some fruit around the office, just to have in case I want something different.  And then there is always the Light yogurts if you have a fridge available.

The quaker mini rice cakes....they have sweet ones. My fav. are the chocolate ones. And they also have non sweet, like bar b que and cheese. My mother likes the cheese ones, they're ok, I like sweets. But they're really good and light. try em!

Maybe I'm just addicted to salt because those things sound very sweet to me. Lol!  You know one other thing I do like is wheat thins or triscuits but those have so many carbs in them it's crazy. I really need to get off that carb kick though. All these damned low protein atkins-like diet fads over the last 5 years have pounded into my brain that carbs are my enemy and it's just now true.  Oh,, and for now, to hell with fruit, it's too sweet! :)  Actually the rice cakes don't sound too bad. It would satisfy my crunchy texture needs. I gotta go grocery shopping soon, I'll pick some up and try them out, thanks!

Chris, that's a good snack - a little high in sodium, but still a good snack.  They make those 100 calorie packs of triscuits, those mini packs of pringles, pretzels; even the small bags of chips are only like 150 calories each.  Those aren't horrible for you.

for me, its all about the portion size - i need single serving things. i cannot be trusted around a box of wheat thins. now, lucky for us, they have tons of 100 calorie packs of things. just check the snack aisle - they have ritz crackers, grahams, oreo crisps, chips ahoy. they also have several varieties of Chewy granola bars that are 90 cals. the special K bars are also 90. my favorite thing is the 100 calorie mini-bags of popcorn. i have one every day with my lunch. i like orville redenbacher 100 cal healthypop kettle corn. mmm. the best snacks of course are not all that convenient. they generally include a healthy balence of carb and protein with a little bit of fat such as an apple with peanut butter, cheese and crackers that sort of thing.  you can get string cheese stickes - some brands are like 40 cals a stick but i think they are pretty unsatisfying.

Hi Chris, I prefer a snack that is high in protein and low in carbs.  More dense protein tends to fill us up more.  I use the low fat mozzarella cheese sticks.  They are between 70-80 calories a piece.  They are filling and don't set off cravings.  I will also opt for a piece of fruit such as an apple, which is high in fiber.

Granola bars, rice cakes, crackers...all are fairly empty carbs and even if only 100 calories, not worth the calories to me.  Like Andrea I can't have a box or a bag of anything in the house.  It just doesn't work for me.

How about nuts? Especially almonds but really any kind. You might have to portion out a serving to take with you, they are kinda calorie expensive, but low in carbs and high in protein. Or you could put SOME peanut butter on your tricuits. That way you are getting fiber, protein, and carb all in one shot and it will last you a whole lot longer. Candy
