My WBC is chronically high 11,000 to 13,000 (my primary physician said it could be attributed to my weight and/or two bouts with mono that could actually be with me for the rest of my life)...... what is the ESR?  isn't that for viral diagnosis? I know family members have arthritis and I've always heard the old people talk about gout....possibility I asked if any medications could change the values on the test and they could not think of any (I'm gonna ask again) You must have a medical background---your knowledge is great wise one

Heya,      Your ESR is your sed rate which basically just indicates you have an inflammatory process going on somewhere.  The only problem is that it isn't specific, so it doesn't tell you WHERE the inflammation is.

I'm lost, what are you talking about? -edit- Scratch that. I realized now you're talking about your uric acid level. lol DUH!  wow i can be such a blonde sometimes!  I'm not expert on the levels but I'd say that sounds pretty high to me. Perhaps you can call your doctor back and talk to him about the water and see if he has any alternative suggestions like Julie has suggested.

The only info I have is that gout HURTS!!!!  When I was doing the 'atkins' thing I developed gout.  When I went in to the ER I thought I had broken my big toe, that is how bad it hurt.  When the doc said 'gout' I laughed, thinking he was kidding!  Only old rich fat men get gout, right?!?! But, it was from all the protein.  I now have to stay away from anything that acts as a kidney, ie. nuts (of any kind), beans, etc.  And I have to keep my protein intake below 30 grams a day, which is VERY hard.  It is very hard to lose weight when you have to keep the protein that low.  Sometimes I think I have to choose between being fat or the pain of the gout.  I am trying though, and that is all that can be asked of me! Good luck, and if you don't have one yet - get a heating pad!  When your feet are cold the gout acts up!  Something about the circulation slowing down and the crystals forming quicker!
