Alternative to Overeaters Anonymous??

Hello everyone! I am new to this site and this is my first post. I looked into many ways to lose the weight, and giving a sincere try at non-surgical weight loss seems to be my best option. I am wondering if there are any "group" type settings to talk, etc. like over eaters anonymous? I would like the support of a group, but am not religious or spiritual, and would not benefit from "giving into a higher power than myself" Any idea on if non religious/spiritual groups like this exist? Thanks everyone!

Hi there,      Personally, I think one of the best weekly group programs is Weigh****chers....and they're everywhere. :-)      If you want something much more formal/structured (but very expensive), look into one of the medically supervised programs.  Almost all of them have weekly meetings.  I did the HMR one a few years back.

I did a search and the nearest Weigh****chers is 25 Miles from where I live (rural MN), and costly. I wonder if my insurance would cover part or all of a medical program. Thanks for the suggestions, especially about the medical one. I didn't realize that they had support groups with those.

Hiya,      After moving from Orange County, CA, to rural KS years ago, everything is a drive for me. LOL  The "close" gym I go to is a 30-minute drive each way.   Everywhere I go involves travel (I average 50-150 miles every day depending on which errands I'm doing), but if you're talking once a week for a support group, a 25 mile drive should be worth the time.

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) might be a good option for you to try.  They have a web page that lets you look up local meetings.  Good Luck.

Ahhh d000d rock on! I never knew about TOPS?  There are like 6 chapters in my area all within 10 miles. Heck one of them is 4 blocks away but their meetings are on tuesday mornings which won't work for me but there is one 6 miles away with meetings in the evening. I'm gonna check that out! This will work MUCH better than OA for me. Thanks for posing the question and thanks for the information!  Not sure why I thought OA was all there is out there.

That's awesome! I ended up joining TOPS in my area because of the reply to your question. Thanks for asking!

I go to my first meeting next Tuesday! In the meantime since starting a 1500 calorie diet, I have lost 9 pounds in 2 weeks! It is incredible! As far as exercise I am walking 1.5 miles, 3-4 days a week.
