So yesterday I was at my parents house because I had to color and cut my mom's hair and my younger brother ordered pizza....pepperoni and extra cheese. Oh man....I was almost in tears because I couldn't have any. All I asked was that my brother grab what he wanted and put the rest away in the fridge. And he sai uh no I'm gonna leave it out here for another 15 minute or som until I am fully done.  So I was ready to die because it smelled so good. And today is someones birthday at work and there are these huge muffins downstairs that I know are down there and I am dying over here! Just dying, this is the hardest thing, I'm so depressed over it! *sigh*  ---Christa

Heya Christa,      Most people find that once you have 2-4 weeks under your belt, that it does start to get a little easier.  It takes that long to start forming new habits.      For now, if you can avoid a situation that you know is going to torture you, do so.  For the unavoidable ones (like what you described above), try to go into it full of both food and water.  It makes resistance a bit easier.      Clean your own home environment the best you can of any and all trigger foods  And always have appropriate snacks available everywhere (kitchen, vehicle, work, etc...) in case you miss a meal or find yourself ravenously hungry.  I try never to go more than 2 1/2-3 hours between snacks.  Oh, and of course, keep your hands busy with tha****er bottle that you're carrying around everywhere with you.      Many of people's favorite foods have good diet versions available out there.  I know since pizza was such a bit part of my menu that I still keep it in my plan...only now it's these little diet Schwan's chicken pizzas (280 calories) instead of an entire 1,600 calorie pizza in one sitting.      Anyway, it's hard to break a food addiction.  For me, I have to treat it like a drug.  Now I try to eat only to fuel my physical activities...never for other reasons.  It's important to find other ways to comfort/reward yourself that aren't food based.  Just remember that nothing tastes as good as "thin."  :-)      Oh, and when you do slip up (and we all do), cut your losses and move on.  One fall off the wagon doesn't put the weight back on, it's the post-binge guilt that leads us into hours/days/weeks of going off track.  Release the guilt and just get back up on the horse that threw you.

Girl, time to stock up.  Fill your desk with nutritious snacks.  Granola bars, quaker snacks, low fat muffins, soy crisps, low fat twinkies - whatever.  Say no to the bad stuff then go back to your desk and stuff some good choices in your tummy.  It's hard as hell, I know, but don't deprive yourself, just give yourself better options, and make those options readily available.  You can do it, chicky!!

sucks, really does!  However...like Julie says, some foods are rather drug-like.  OA calls them trigger foods.  Pizza is a big one for me. I have to act like it's going to bite me when I eat it - I am "armed" with a big salad to fill me up before i eat like 10 pieces. Muffins are not far behind - especially home baked ones.  Store bought don't interest me too much when I recall that most of them are like 4 servings - 400 calories, usually, FULL of saturated fat.  You need to try to change your attitude about deprivation feelings.  Say to your chubby lil self, I CAN have that pizza - i choose not to.  Okay, you MIGHT feel mad about passing it up but try to take away the negative feelings about saying no.  Look at  it this way: saying no this one time = bypassing all the guilt and shame if you were to eat it You know darn well if you eat off your doc's plan, then you WILL BE PISSED!  RIGHT? I get pissed when I eat stuff that is not in my best interest, and that is dumb. Saying no IS in my BEST interest! You too! Plus, it's not like later on, you cannot work some of this type of food in once in a while!  you will - after you know how to do it without pigging out on it.  Good lukc, dudette!!!!  I know you can do this.  Trust me, your tastes will change, but you are in detox right now. That is only your fat cells crying out.  ignore those guys!!!! You are the Mom here, tell them who's the BOSS!~!!!!!! I swear by my bariatric foods in my purse or car at ALL times.  I have no excuse to go  off plan because I always have a better choice around. Be prepared, Girl Scout!
