Baffled once again

I am so disappointed in myself:  I have been eating non-stop for the past two or three weeks and obviously gained weight. (I know why - my sister officially has reached a rock bottom status of her alcohol addiction just about 2-3 weks ago and it's breaking my heart.)   Anyway, I worked sooo hard to lose 9.5 lbs, and now it may all be for nothing.  I will weight in officially on Tuesday, so we'll see what happens then.  I feel so hopeless during times like this.  It's weird, I know exactly how I yo-yo up and down, but each time I gain weight back I am always so baffled.  What do I need to have happen to me, to make a long-lasting impact on me and remind me to stay focused and structured before I go down yet another slippery slope?

You're being too hard on yourself.  Everyone is going to slip up at something sometime.  Strive for excellence, not perfection!  Think about other "plans".  What about Atkins?  You can pretty much eat until the cows come home and not pay the price.  Open up the gates of options, look around, see that other people screw up too.  Let it go and get back on track.  You can do it!!!!

Wow, you're amazing Janina! I felt your positive energy while reading your post.  Thank you so much for your support and for helping  me get back down to reality and breathe a bit. So, Atkins is basically cutting out junk foods and carbs? Is there anything else I should know in case I decide to try it? (I tried reading your profile by the way, and all I saw was wallpaper and that's it.)

Atkin's is cutting out junk food big time.  It's eating real food - skipping all the middle aisles at the supermarket and running the perimeter only.  This morning I had a protein shake for breakfast, kielbasa with sauerkraut(sp?) for lunch and I'll have steak with stringbeans for dinner.  For dessert, I'll have some sugar free jello with whip cream or a low carb soy granola bar.  It's about eating whole foods, with the least amount of processing as possible.  Anyone can do it.  Give it a try!!

which of us has not been there?  what kinds of foods have you indulged in?  If it was the *really bad stuff* (fast food, cookies, etc), that is rather easy.   Go into a detox mode: Fruits, veggies (even red potatoes) nonfat dairy, lean meats, soy products,  no dressings except lemon and olive oil,  whole grains,  very little fat, except olive oil,  water or decaf tea only.   I also have purchased some psyllium husk - pure stuff only, and add to a glass of water. Start with a tablespoon the first day 2x that day, then back off to one teaspoon in water whenever you feel hungry. It bulks up in your belly and helps you feel not so hungry. You won't have diarhea, probably no gas, drink lots of water! And tell yourslef it is detox mode. It helps me stay on track. Drink lemon water in between meals.  Make a nice veggies soup and have that the first day to get your mind in order. The more of that bad stuff, the more we want.  Getting out of it even for three days really helps me get back to basics. If it's just plain eating too much good stuff, that is harder. I would still try the detox thing and see how you go.  Walk for 20 minutes at least every day. And...get out of your sister's gig. i know you love her, but try walking, praying for her when you feel wretched.  She is in God's hands, like always.  it is not your rock to carry. Put down the rock.  Someone painted a rock for me that says just that.  Maybe you can go to the hardware store, buy some paint and stencils.  Then go by a river or pond or ? and find a rock.  Wa**** dry, it, paint yourself a rock that will remind you.

Thank you so much for your wealth of knowledge and info - it can only help me get back into the swing of things. I especially LOVE your advice about having to get rid of those rocks in our lives! You couldn't have said it better.   Thanks again!

Curious....what is psyllium husk?

Psyllium is a soluble fiber used primarily as a gentle bulk-forming laxative. It comes from a shrub-like herb called plantain that grows worldwide. There are many species of plantain that can each produce up to 15,000 tiny, gel-coated seeds. The plantain herb that produces psyllium seed is not the same plant as edible plantains. Psyllium husk is derived from these odorless, tasteless seeds.

It adds bulk to (ahem) stools. This is good for a person like me who is errrr, loose.

So, does it help in weight loss? You'll learn, I ask a lot of questions sometimes, and you seem like a very informative person. So this should work good!
