Hi Delilah!  Welcome. I am back to Weigh****chers - my 3rd time.  The program is fantastic, it's me who flakes. I am trying to change my view forever. I need the accountability, and the freedom to flex my food to what everyobdy else eats, so this works for me. Please read my profile - my PCP won't allow me to get wls (lapband for me), so I am in your boat. This is the last stop, I have to get/stay accountable.

Hiya Deliah,      Welcome to the board!    And I agree with Neecee that, as programs go, Weigh****chers is one of the best out there.  Never under estimate the power of weekly accountability at a public meeting for motivation. LOL      One of the first things I would suggest though that you can do on your own is to concentrate on "adding" certain things to your diet/activity each day rather than putting your self in the mind set of "deprivation."  For instance, try to increase your water consumption significantly, shoot for eating at least one vegetable and one fruit each day, divide your food into 5-6 "mini meals" each day to fight hunger and speed up your metabolism, and experiment with walking for 5 min longer than you would normally be comfortable with.  It takes about 2-3 weeks for things to become a habit, so it's important to wait until a change is easy for you before making more adjustments.      If you kept a food journal this week of every single thing you ate and drank (as well as whatever physical activity you can get in), we could also give you a lot of tips which would be specific to your situation.  Weight loss is all about an "individual" plan, one that suits your physical, mental, and emotional needs.  But we're here for you.  Just let us know what we can do for you.      Should you ever want to talk to someone in person, let me know and I'll send you my phone number. Welcome delilah, The first step I made was to get myself out of the "pre failure" mindset. By that I would say things like " this is going to fail like so many times before, i have tried so many diets, blah blah" Then I also had to let go of the word "diet". For me diet  meant i was trying to lose weight for a designated time or event.  I stoppped beating myself up, began to encourage myself and look at the longterm benefits. When my weight would go up, I would go back to my food journel and evaluate what I ate. I agree with the other person, tracking food and preparing in advance are helpful especially if you have a busy lifestyle. Keep the faith and get support in whichever way you can find it. Maybe go see a nutritionist. It has really helped me. Just know that we are all hear for ya. Be Blessed

Hi Delilah, I think everyone has to find a way that works for them and everyone here has some good ideas. Weigh****chers is tried and true and Julie's idea about "baby steps" is a good one. The idea about a nutritionist is good too. They can help you customize something that works for your needs.  I had to do things in baby steps. When I was first really getting serious I made some small changes (ate as much as I wanted but changed the quality of foods first, in other words I gave up most junk food) I didn't weigh myself but I tried it for about a month and in that time increased my activity somewhat. Then I decided one morning that my knees weren't hurting as badly and that maybe I was taking off a little weight. That motivated me so I got on the scale and got serious.  I really cut my portion sizes and I went to exercise at my physical therapy gym 3 times a week.  The foods I eat are not exactly low carb but I watch my carbs very carefully and between that and the correct amount of protein it has helped with my energy a lot! Plus I drink a lot of water! The trick is to find something that you can live with.   I don't like to cook when I'm dieting because I really mess up my calorie counts tasting things so I am using a lot of things like bag salads and things I can microwave. Not being around tempting foods when I can avoid it really helps. I just found a light salad dressing I love and I am so excited... I've never been excited about a salad dressing but now I am! How things change! I wish you the best! As you can see there are a lot of supportive people on this board! Let us know how things are going... Sherry

Weigh****chers for me too - so far so good!! I weigh in on Saturday mornings and am actually looking forward to my meeting!!  No matter what, I never judge my success by the scale though, I go by many factors including my effort and how I feel - plus how my clothes are fitting....sometimes the scale isn't a true testament to how one is doing with weight loss! Good luck with whatever you choose!!
