Hi all, I just started taking Xenical about 1 week ago. I was interested in other people's success with this diet aid. Has anyone lost a large amount of weight on it? Have you kept it off? What side effects did you have? I'm anxious about it, and ready to get losing. Cheers Kate

i go on and off this drug both under a doctor's supervision and on my own - have some in my drawer right now that i got a few months ago off the internet. i don't feel like it helped me to lose weight as i already eat pretty low fat as it is. i do feel like it might have helped me NOT to gain weight during difficult times (i.e. holidays) and when i was not able to cook for myself (when i lived at a boarding school and had no kitchen). it only works with fat absorption though, so if you eat low fat/fat free stuff, its not going to do anything for you. its similar to WLS in a way. if you eat badly, you get ill and have nasty side effects, therefore its reinforces good eating habits because you want to avoid the gross effects. its basic behavioral principles. you will have all the side effects as described if you eat a high fat meal. i'm not gonig to repeat them here because they are gross and involve words like "leakage." when i am on it, i usually only take it before dinner since breakfast and lunch are pretty easily healthy for me. i personally am more of a carb/sugar person, so the xenical doesn't do anything for that. i think the research shows moderate success with this drug, but again it all comes down to a calories in, calories out. you still need to make the necessary lifestyle changes. good luck and let us know how it goes. you can email me privately if you want to know anything more about my experience.

Xenical didn't do anything for me except make me feel sick a lot. I didn't lose any weight on it and eventually stopped taking it due to the high cost. It wasn't covered by my insurance and I wasn't having any results after 6mo of usage. Lisa

I have a family member who took it and let me tell ya it wasn't pretty. Let me just say that fat is orange and I know that cause it would leave her toliet that way Seriously, the "leakage thing" is no joke. If she laughed too hard or coughed she would go running to the bathroom. I asked her about the weightloss and she said she lost a few pounds, but quit cause of the "leakage" side effect was interferring with her ability to work (she's a nurse). If you want more info, I'll be sure to ask her Be Blessed Cam

I guess it depends on the person, because I haven't had many issues with Xenical.  I have been dieting since June, and went on Xenical in July.  To date, I have lost 75 pounds.  Now, I think I could have lost most of that without the Xenical, but I feel the Xenical is probably responsible for at least 5 pounds.  You have to be responsible about  using it, though.  Some people think you can have all the fat you want, but you still need to eat less than 30% of your diet from fat, or the side effects will be unpleasant.  The only time leakage has ever been an issue for me is with passing gas, so I just don't do that unless I am in the bathroom.  If you are a gassy person, though, it might not work for you.
