Working on Variety

Hey all, Since I have a tendency to eat the same thing over and over when I'm dieting (my OCD peeking out), I'm making an attempt to broaden my horizons. So instead of eating like yesterday when I ate 5 protein bars over the course of the day since I had to make a 13-hour road trip (I did have 5 servings of salad the day before), I'm making it a goal to try 2 new things every day this week. So for brunch just now, I tried a SouthBeach sandwich wrap kit which tasted pretty good (21g of protein in 210 calories), the Caesar chicken one. I fell off the wagon last week for 3 days after giving blood on Tuesday. It really wiped me out, and my giving myself permission to eat extra food that Tuesday turned into 3 days instead. But I'm back on track at the moment and sitting at 168 as of this morning. At least my binges are becoming smaller and shorter in length. Going to try to get a blog in this week and post a bit more. Julie

Hi julie Those are wonderful - SB wraps! Some weeks I keep those in my work fridge for a quick snack. Dr. Oz actually supports eating the same types of healthy foods for breakfast & lunch. His theory is that too mnay flavors can stimulate appetite. I'm with you tho, the protein bars alla time are a rocky path. For me, I get sick of how sweet they taste. I'm just not into sweets often!

i have never bought the SB wraps but saw them in the store today w/ a new flavor - sesame chicken. you inspired me to buy it. i got home to look at it and i think those are the tiniest tortillas i've ever seen!!! i guess you can't expect too much for 210 cals. have you ever checked out http://www.hungry-girl.com/ this is where i find out about lots of new products and recipes. they have a daily newsletter that you can sign up for or they archive everything on the website if you don't want the daily message. but i love it! some things are intriguing but questionable (powdered peanut butter?) but i've found some good things too (fiber one bars, splenda blends). i just bought the Bumblebee flavored chicken breasts pouches - they are okay. not that i wouldn't have found all of these things on my own maybe but they do reviews of the new stuff as well - like comparing the 7 different kinds of gardenburgers. they also have ones where they makeover a high calorie treat into something more reasonable - that's "Chew the Right Thing." being stuck in a routine is a downfall for me as well - better to stick with what you know...i expanded my choices a whole lot more when i was doing the food delivery service because they would bring me lots of vegetables that i thought i didn't like before and eggs, which i NEVER ate before - now i have an egg white omelette nearly every day. that forced me to try new things. its the same thing with exercise. new things are scary!

Andrea, you are so funny! I thought the same thing about the tortillas when I saw them. That was a bite sized snack to me. And, if I remember correctly, they had a fair amount of sodium in them, too. BTW, what are the name of those noodles that you said were good & did you find them in the regular grocery store? I meant to try them way back when you mentioned them but I never did get around to it.

i think i'll end up supplementing the SB wraps. i just can't imagine being full from that! they are called Shirataki noodles and they have them in fettucine shape and spaghetti shape. for some reason, i don't care for the fettucine ones even though they are made of the same thing. i dunno. i get them at whole foods. do they have those where you are? i can't remember where in maryland you are, but of course they have many whole foods location in the DC area. i usually make them with some classico w/ veggies and a crumbled boca burger. that hungry-girl website also has a number of different recipes you can use them for like tuna noodle casserole and alfredo. they are located in the refrigerated tofu section back next to the yogurt and milk.

Thanks! There's a Whole Foods by The Container Store in Rockville, so I'll check them out there. I understand what you mean about the fettucine. I just like the texture of thinner noodles. I always buy angel hair pasta which is more expensive but I like the thin texture vs. the thicker spaghetti.
