I stole this from a post I saw on the Black American Forum. I was intrigued by it and decided I would post it here. http://www.cspinet.org/nah/10foods_bad.html

yes these are all poor nutritional choices but i am very against having any "bad" foods. any food can be incorporated into a balenced diet even cheesecake factory and mrs. fields. its all a question of awareness and planning. if you know you love mrs. fields and can't resiste when you go to the mall, go to their website and get their info for your favorite cookie then work it into your plan for the day. of course it would be a good idea to keep this to an occasional treat, not an everday occurence. depriving yourself just creates a diet mentality rather than reinforcing lifestyle change and once you're "on a diet" i think its all downhill from there. i don't know - those are my thoughts. i just found that for me, not having the diet mentality was HUGE.

I agree that you shouldn't give up foods that you really like. I am in Overeaters Anonymous, and I've had to give up foods (one day at a time, of course!) that require hardly any chewing, since I end up bingeing on them. They are delivery pizza, spanish rice, tuna noodle casserole, etc. They just slide down my throat, and if I try to eat a moderate amount of them, I feel very unsatisfied and still hungry, because they took too little time to eat. I'd rather eat foods that require alot of chewing, because they last a long time, and I feel my stomach catches up with my brain, then. I can eat a moderate amount of these foods. As for sweet stuff, I get the no-sugar, low fat version, since it satisfies my sweet tooth, and I don't have to feel guilty about alot of sugar and fat. I can eat moose tracks ice cream with no sugar and low fat, and it tastes the same as the higher calorie version, to me. Denise Phares

It's called laziness (not wanting to take time to cook) or overly booked schedule... I suffer from both of those at times... of course I see where it put me too... Want to cook for me too?

You REALLY have read food labels because these days everybody's making lowfat, lowcarb, low sugar, or something but it is still not premission to binge. And alot of times it is not good for you! :afro:
