I had my endo appt, my Gall Bladder US and my EGD today. Endo wants to start Byetta, didn't address whether I should consider WLS but wanted me to see him again in 2 months. My surgeon wanted to go ahead and do the testing just in case we decide to proceed with surgery. He found some erosions, gastritis, small hiatal hernia. Darnit!! So now I have to start Nexium too. I'm a little confused. Wouldn't the Byetta be the alternative to WLS at this point? My surgeon is leaning towards LapBand...says I too young to need to consider anything more drastic than that at this point. I don't know what to think. Any suggestions?

Well, yes. The Nexium will clear the gastritis and erosions, certainly before any surgery is done. My question is related more to the Byetta and the Lap Band. Don't they both decrease appetite? Why do both? Maybe I'm just venting and not really looking for an answer! Thanks anyway!

My mom is a type 2 diabetic. She started with the Byetta shots about a year ago. She's lost almost a 100 lbs but is still diabetic. That's not changed. It's not really a good answer for her because while she's eating less...it's only due to the meds. When she does eat, she doesn't eat well at all. Maybe a roll or hash brown at breakfest. Buffet foods for lunch or dinner. No exercise. It's really so sad. If there's a point she has to stop the shots, i just know she'll be gaining it back then some. My aunt is also diabetic. She tried Byetta but she felt so sick she wasn't eating and her sugars were really out of whack. So she had to stop after a few weeks. Good luck with whatever you decide....
