Just curious to see how many folks here have done or are doing Optifast? My  wonderful wife and I are starting it Monday. Thank you. Jimmy

I did Optifast back in the days that Oprah did and I was successful with it for a while. My biggest problem was that for some reason, My asthma medication did not work without real food...I ended up in the hospital on several occassions for intractable asthma attacks. My doctor made me quit Optifast and go back to a regular food diet. Because I quit early for medical reasons, I did not do the program's maintenance program. I regained the weight very quickly. I do think Optifast is a good alternative to WLS, if you do the program. Going it alone has always been problematic for me in controlling my weight. Make sure you have a lot of support. Also, you are on a very low calorie diet. it is important to be evaluated for nutritional deficiencies while you are on this program. make sure you are getting enough calcium, vitamin B-12.... Good Luck, Kelly

Honestly? Optifast was probably the single biggest factor in me becoming morbidly obese. Totally shut my metabolism down, then, just as Oprah did, major regain with lots of friends. Starving the weight off simply doesn't work...and it doesn't teach you how to eat for long term maintenance of weight loss. Nancy

Hi Jimmy I wonder if I could ask you to either scan the nutrititonal list for me or write it down as I would like to compare it to Proactive. Thanks Myra
