the oprah show Tuesday is about people who have had WLS and then developed other issues as a result of not dealing with the source of their problems (i'm guessing this will be the slant). the two stories in the previews include one developing alcoholism and another becoming very promiscuous. anyway, i think it will be interesting, so i wanted to say something about it.

Hi Andrea, I rarely ever go to the main board but I popped over there yesterday and saw many of them getting their panties in a wad over the show. If you don't bow down and praise WLS, you're the devil, lol! I set my DVD to record it. So many people don't realize that if you don't fix your head, your problems follow you, fat or thin. I also read your post on the PS board. I'm sorry that someone sent you nasty emails. Your pictures were a great inspiration to me. But, that's why I haven't posted any of my PS pics. I'm too chicken because of all the weirdo's out there. Take care, Juli

I'm going to miss the original broadcast but I do plan to watch the repeat on a local channel at 7 p.m. tonight. I was just discussing the show with my DH. He basically said what Juli said -- you have to work on your issues apart from the weight. I was at home yesterday when most of the discussion started at Main (wish they could merge all the Oprah threads) -- there is also a link for the show at oprah.com and it looks like discussion there will be heated too.

Andrea, that stinks you were flamed. What is the PS board? I also will be watching the Oprah show. DID anyone see the one she had over the summer with the WLS? She was stuck in her house on 9/11 and so she had the surgery cause she wasnt mobile. She said some VERY interesting things and I commend her for that. ABout how the surgery truly is a tool and only works for about the first year so if you dont fix your head then your screwed. She looked FAB and she was so happy. Did anyone see that one?

PS is the plastic surgery board. i wasn't flamed so much as grossed out. i was in the habit of posting a link to my plastic surgery pictures for anyone who asked as i have had many procedures and people ask to see them all the time. i got a private email from a male on this site that was skeevy and inappropriate (complimentary, but definitely inappropriate). so anyway, now i'm no longer posting my info publicly and am asking people to email me privately if they want the link and password. so nothing major, but was a bit of wake-up call for me to remember that these are public forums etc.

I saw that show and I thought it was ok. The thing that got me was the message board on her site about the show. OMG!!! for those of you who haven't viewed it please do. There were people who posted about their experiences after wls. I must say some of it is down right horrific! One person says that by having gastric bypass she "traded one poor lifestyle for another". One lady even talks about brain damage and things of the sort. It reaffirmed for me that I am making the right choice for me. I COULD NOT live with knowing those things were a possibility.

Neecee As I stated, wls is not FOR ME. I'm not saying that I don't understand why some do it. I know a lady who is 600lbs. I am doubtful that she would have been able to lose the weight on her own. I also would like to add that I think that the experience of the dr is important, however I remember reading a woman's profile on OH (can't recall the name it was some time ago) Who suffered many illnesses related to wls. She even stated in her profile that she went to the most experienced dr in her area. Even the best of drs have a bad day. My mother is a dr and I have observed her sleep deprived and worse. I know there are plentyof people who do their homework and some who don't. I believe that both sides of the coin have had bad results. As for teh surgery coming along way, I completly agree. My point is that I could not live with that uncertainity, if you will, on a day to day basis. By that I mean if I were having cramps, I would rush to the ER thinking its a bowel obstruction or something. I could never live in peace and enjoy the new me because of fear. To know that something like a brain injury is possible is frightening to me. If you were to read what she stated on the message board, she was a very successful businesswoman, I believe an accountant or something like that. Now she can barely count and can only stay awak for 4 hrs or so because she is so weak. I am not trying to down anyone. I stated it was the choice for me not to have it and me alone. I guess my opinion is swayed because I don't have any health problems other than being overweight nor have I experienced any. I don't know what its like to be in constant pain and unable to move. Again, I was simply stating my opinion about my choice, it was not meant to hurt anyone's feelings. If I did that to you or anyone you know, it was completly accidental. Be Blessed Cam
