Hi, new to the group
Hi all,
My name is Denise and I am 33 year old mother of two well three including my husband. =-) I have struggled with weight issues since childhood. I have a tendency to give up on anything I try because of not having instant results. I am contemplating having the WLS but am very apprehensive because of seeing what my mother's friend has gone through.
I have been reading some of the posts and I am curious to what types of things everyone is doing. I seen something about steps. If anyone could fill me in or give me some types that would be wonderful.
Thanks!!
Denise
hi Denise,
Welcome to the group. I will tell you what I did to lose 140 pounds, but in the end you have to do what works for you, not for someone else. For me it was low carb/low fat, pretty much a South Beach Diet approach. I do not consume any processed carbs. My basic motto is that I won't eat anything that hasn't lived at one point. Vegetables, grains, protein, etc. My carbs are in the form of complex such as vegetables, lean meats and whole grains on a moderate basis.
You said that you give up on anything that doesn't give instant results. Well, welcome to life and being human!!!!! We all live for instantaneous results. That is the type of people we are these days. However, think of it like this. Everything is cumulative. I have lost 140 pounds since July of 2005. I am now 14 months into my journey. I have lost approximately 2.3 pounds per week based on that amount of time. Think about it. You can lose 2.3 pounds a week on weigh****chers!!!! Do you think 9 pounds a month is a lot to lose? Nope, neither do I. But it adds up, as you can see. I used to think that if I had stayed on just ANY program for longer than I had, I could have easily lost 52 pounds a year at a very very moderate loss of 1 pound a week. You stated you have been struggling with your weight since you were a small child. I think you are intelligent enough to figure out where I am going with this.
As I said to Janie, the other poster, it has to be a change of life. It's that simple. Without a true change of life, and a change in the way we deal with food and relate to it, we are destined to fail.
Good luck in whatever you do. Come back for support, that is what we are here for. Sometimes the board is dead, but some of us are also in the process of working on plastic surgery so we go to that board as well. I do, however, read the non-op board every single day.
Again, welcome.
