Hello everyone I have been away from the site for awhile now. I guess I gotten too besides myself after losing 30lbs. But anyway, I have gained back 15lbs and I feel terrible. I need help finding my way back. I slowly stopped exercising and it's sooo hard to get back on point, everday it's a battle. I am still battling Tinnitus (sp?)this makes it extremely hard for me to function. Along with starting back moving, I was interested in the "Smash the Fat Diet" by Dr. Ian Smith. Has anyone tried this? Has anyone known anyone who has tried it? I was watching CFC today and it seems to have done alot for the celebraties on the show. Tell me what you all think about the show this sesson.

Hello Gemini Gem, I don't know what to tell you. I am struggling just like you. I was down 104 pounds and I have gained 50!!! yes 50 of them back. Everyday I fight not to gain any more, let alone relosing the weight yet again. The only thing I found that has helped me a little was to at least start back exercising. This seems to keep the weight gain from increasing. If you find the solution I would love to hear it. Best of luck! Ann

Hi Ann and Gem, I'm sorry to hear you are having such a battle. This weight battle is so hard. I'm in the same boat as the two of you. I haven't been doing very well either. Last December I decided to begin excersing regularly in hopes of getting healtier and stronger - and to loose some weight. I've done okay with the excercise. I have a personal trainer and go see her 3 times a week. Over the summer I've slacked a bit with extra trips to the gym for walking, but I have used the pool for swimming laps here where I live, so I've kept up the exercise and I am happy about that. But I have not done anything with loosing weight. I've gained and lost the same 10 pounds for the last 8 months. It really is ridiculous. I'm getting to the point of being embarassed to go to the gym to see my trainer. She asks me how the food is going and would like me to keep track of what I eat and share it with her. I know she wants to do this to help me. But, because I am so unable to control my eating it just makes me feel more and more like a loser (and not the good kind). I've gotton to the point where some days I just dread going there. Anyway, I'm pretty much down in the dumps and just not sure how to take control of this for myself. I joined weigh****cher a month ago - I lost 10 pounds and then gained it all back when I was on vacation. (The same 10 lbs. I've lost and gained since last December). Exercise is important and I do feel better with what I am doing, but the food and nutrition need to follow along. I'm guessing that a big part of my problem is now also age related. I used to loose weight much easier. Now, over 50, it seems like every pound is a struggle. I am so envious of those who have been successful. Not in a bag way (I hope), just wishing I could find that somethign that "clicks" with me and gets my head in the place it needs to be to be successful. What is especially disheartening is that I feel like I am successful in other areas of my life - I have a great job, a husband who loves me, etc. Well, enough of this, I need to get ready for work. Hey sweetie long time no see......... Yes the key is exercise....... I have been on this journey now for 20 months and down 150 pounds and you will re-gain weight. Myy weight stays between 147-152 lbs now. I do not panic. I just exercise daily and do eat over 1500 calories...... You just have to regain your control and restart your program. I know, it is a life time struggle !!!!!! Sadly there are no free rides...... It is so good to see your pretty smile again Phyllis

Hello Gemini Gem, and hello to all of the other reply posts. Welcome back. It appears to me that I may be one of the only men that check into this part of the site so I hope that is ok. Personally I have not heard of the "Smash the Fat Diet" It must be the new craze and if celebrities are doing it it is most likely a quick fix instead of something for the long run. I have been on a program that has been around for over 25 years and is proven to be safe and effective and if you stay on it and then go onto maintain you can stay at your healthy weight. I have been on it for 19 months and have lost a significant amount of weight and continue to lose, it is not hard and you do not get humgry. If you can eat every 3 hours then you can do this program. Exercise is key buit not always right from the begining, you want your body to get used to less calories and losing before the exercise starts so your system does not goes into the starvation mode to conserve calories that it thinks it may not get now. But again you are right on going exercise is key and even some is better than none. Gemini Gem check out the program you want to choose well because you want to make sure it is something you can stick with and can then maintain on. Good luck on your journey. Joe

I agree with others - exercise - even walking my dog - helps keep me going. I recently found a gym that has personal trainers (and time with them is included in the membership fee!) and have my first appt with her tomorrow. I'm looking forward to it. I've been maintaining at my weight for about a month now. Had a 30 lb. loss since March so I'm feeling the need for a boost. I also have an appt with the nutritionist associated with my WLS surgeon later today. I'm looking forward to meeting with her, reviewing my food diary and gleaning as much information as I can. I haven't had WLS surgery - however hearing some of the stories from those that have can be helpful - that's why I continue to go to the WLS support groups. And thankfully, they are okay with my continuing to attend the meetings. Actually, I'm very glad the process for WLS surgery takes between 3 - 6 months here - it has given me time to not only jumpstart my weight loss but also gain the nutrition knowledge and meet the people who can help with my journey. Ive looked at his books at Barnes and Noble and almost bought them. It sounds like alot of good sound advice and its not some big huge book that will take you days to read it, probably just an afternoon. About the show, I totally missed what happened last week, I hope they show it again this weekend before the new one airs, I see Gary B is coming back, man that man is an odd duck. lol Have a great weekend!!! -Ruthe
