Hello everyone. I just found the other board a little over a week ago while I was doing a plastic surgery search. I've posted a few times but felt rather out of place since I'm a non-op that has lost 106 lbs. I still have another 20 lbs to go but I never gave myself a time limit. I just realized that there was a non-op board here all along. I never knew that there were so many people like me. My neice wants to have WLS but thinks she'll still be able to drink beer & eat pizza while still losing weight. Ugh! That's a losing battle. I forwarded her info on this site but I doubt she'll follow up. I peronally was not willing to assume the risks of WLS. I made myself fat & it was up to me to do something about it. I do, however, feel it is the only option left for some people. Unfortunately, there are people like me niece that think it's an easy out. I hope I'm welcome to post here & I look forward to learning what all of you have done to change your lifestyles.

Welcome I am also a non-op. I have lost 77 lbs in 5 months and 10 days simply by changing my nutrition but I dont exercise. I have a lot of lbs left since my startweight was 403 lbs but I know I will get it off. I remember of being desperate about my obesity and I often thought "I should get the WLS surgery to get thin, its the only way out". That thought was then reinforced when the people that had WLS were appearing in TV and they had lost so much weight. I live in Iceland so the WLS surgery is paid by the state, and I would have no difficulties getting into the WLS program. In fact I felt pressured by doctors to get WLS, but my mother was very much against it, so I waited, because my mum is always right. Every thing that she has warned me of doing in my life turns out to be exactly what she said it was, so I listen to her advice and follow it. Now few years later I can see how WLS has worked for so many people I know. Then I am talking about that nearly everyone that has had WLS looks literally sick and grey and malnourished. Most of them have very little energy to live an active life, and its like they age faster. There are also so many that have gained the whole extra weight again and some more. It is my opinion that its very serious to mess with the digestive organs like they do in the WLS, and it is no surprise that so many people look sick post-op, they simply are not getting all the nutritions from their digestion, because its all messed up. I am no doomsday-profet but I sincerely think that in time WLS´s will be considered the biggest medical mistake in the history of mankind. hugs and kisses from Iceland, Heidrun my weightloss journal (I just posted some before and after 75 lbs on it: http://kilokiller.blogspot.com/

Hi Heidrun, Wow! What a difference after 75 lbs lost. I am so happy for you & I'm so happy you listened to your mother. I also agree with what you said about seeing WLS patients on TV. Then everyone thinks it's easy but they don't see the complications that can occur. Keep up whatever it is that you're doing because it's obviously working. J.

Congratulations on your tremendous loss. At least you are doing it the healthy way. I am glad my insurance won't pay for the WLS. I am just too scared to go through with it. And I read one of the post that says WLS people look malnourished years later. That's probably because they are. Denise Phares
