Progress, not perfection

I wanted to share with you that this week, I've made progress in improving my abstinence, or refraining from compulsive overeating. Yesterday, I made french toast for my one client. Usually, I make her two pieces, then I eat up whatever she can't finish. She has trouble chewing with her new temporary dentures on top, because she doesn't have her new bridge on the bottom in yet. I offered to make her one piece of french toast, and asked if she felt she could eat all of it. She said yes, but asked "don't you want some?". I said "no, I don't want to eat it anymore." So I made her the one piece, and she ate it all, and I didn't even feel deprived! Today, when she was finished eating her cheesy egg and toast with butter and jelly, she left some of the toast, because of her chewing problem. When she offered it to me, I took the leftover toast and stuck it inside my yogurt container, instead of eating it. She seemed pleased by this, and I felt really good about it, too! The next thing I will work on is cutting back the junk food (chocolate, etc.) on the weekends. Denise Phares
