Scientists and researchers in the food industry work hard to lure you into choosing their products; consume more of it than you need or want; and crave repeated helpings. They manipulate your appetite on a subconscious level, using covert tricks to stimulate you in ways you are never aware of.

How can anyone succeed at achieving and maintaining a healthy weight in the face of these efforts?

Topic: RE: Dr Rohit Patel--Cooper Health
I Met with him a little over a month ago and really liked him. I don't have a surgery date yet. I am going to start all of my testing in Nov. Hopefully I can be scheduled soon after all of my testing is done. My insurance co does not have a previous weight loss plan requirement so I should be able to get approved pretty quickly. Here's hoping.

I love Cooer hospital. My mother had surgery there a few months ago. What a top notch professional team she had. Thats the main reason I decided to consult. with Dr. Patel in the first place.

Do you have your surgery date already?

I hope your consult went well!  I am a patient of Dr. Andrei's and in the process of my 6 month supervised diet.  I am scheduled for surgery in January!  Dr. Andrei and the staff are ALL fantastic.  I'm so glad I found a dr and staff that I'm 110% comfortable with for my journey!  Good Luck on your journey!

She might also want to try calling her insurance company directly.  They would be able to tell her who is in her network in her area.  Also her insurance company might have information on their website.  I would start there first.

Which type of surgery is she looking at?  (different docs do different types for different insurances)   If she can narrow down her focus....  I'm sure we can offer suggestions!

Hi!
I am scheduled for surgery in January with Doctor Patel. I'm just going through the last of my testing. His team are very welcoming and flexible. I had an original consult with him and he seemed to know his stuff! I spoke with the docs that did my upper GI study and they said that he leaves no stone unturned and wants no surprises so he is very thorough. So far so good. I work for Cooper as well so I better be good

I would love to read more info as well if anyone has already been sleeved!

That's all I can help with for now.

Topic: RE: qualifying for surgery via Horizon BCBS
Was this an MD seminar or a BCBS seminar?  The letter I received from Horizon stated at least 6 months of conservative weight loss program overseen by an MD and a psych eval.

I have Horizon BCBS as well.  During my initial seminar they gave each person a hand out specific to your insurance provider.  All I need to provide was a letter stating my attempts over the past 12 months to lose weight.  I submitted my docs last week.  My surgeon's coordinator said they usually take about a business week to approve.  Horizon doesn't require a 6 month supervised diet prior to submitting, just a letter.  Right now i'm still waiting to hear back...hope my letter was good enough :)

I'm pretty sure that plans vary significantly within Horizon BCBS, although the feedback I got was a couple/3 months ago about it.  Either your plan covers it better, or maybe they weren't clear with you.  They sent me a letter with all the requirements enumerated.  You never know when you talk to people over the phone how complete the response is...
