the blood transfusion is ok but you have to stay overnight in the hospital, it takes a long time to do the transfusion and they have to check your blood levels.

the centrum chewables taste bad...get the spectravite chewables from CVS...much better.

however, they don't have iron.

the vitron C is in the larger shop rites and in rite aid.

Nannette and Sheri-

Thanks for the responses. I have been looking for the Vitron C that Nannette takes,  but I can't find that. I am going to Target right now to get the Centrum, it's closer than CVS for me.  Thanks again, I can't wait to have more energy...it's awful right now.  The only good thing about the anemia is that I don't feel the heat like everyone else-I am always cold!  I have a sweater and scarf on at my office..but I am not the only one-they keep the office like a meat locker-guess they don't want anyone dozing off? lol.. love to both of you :)

Sheri-how was the transfusion?  I am really afraid of that word for some reason.   Any thing you could tell me about it?  I picture it like donating blood-and I hate that noise.

Kennedy Health Systems is hosting our first walk from obesity. We are really hoping to have as many walkers as possible...won't you join us??

14 pounds lost before surgery. My first ticker is when I hit onderland: this was my goal when I started on this journey.  I want to focus on that right now...once I get there I can reevaluate.

My second ticker is my dream goal. Even if I only visit there for a short time, it would be nice to see that number just once.  I am pretty sure I'll need plastics to hit this goal.

GREAT - that's good to know!  Thanks!  Good luck with your approval - come back and let me know how it goes.

I just got off the phone with the coordinator, she confirmed that the new plan applies to my policy. (It changed effective June 19th). So I just need to have a "wrap up" with my surgeon (on Thurs) and she'll submit. So right now I have a tentative date of August 16th.

The coordinator told me that she's not had any issues with approval as long as all the multi-disciplinary team requirements are met.  She's already had a couple of approvals under the new policy and sees no issue with mine.

Where in NJ are you living / working -- easier to point out the more convenience support groups then!

Topic: Changes to Horizon BC/BS Pre-Op Requirements - Anyone Recently Approved??
Just wondering if anyone has submitted for surgery approval since Horizon BC/BS changed their pre-op requirements?  And if so, was there any delay or problems?

I believe the change went into effect about 2 weeks ago.  They no longer require 6 consecutive months' worth of recorded weights from a doctor-supervised weight loss program.  My understanding is that they still want to see proof of a history of obesity and attempts at a weight loss program, but they're not being as stringent about the 6 consecutive months.

I just completed all my pre-op requirements (nutritionist, nutrition class, psych approval, etc.).  Once the surgeon's office gets all the documentation together they will submit for approval.  My surgical coordinator said that typically Horizon notifies them within 5 business days.  However, with the changes in effect she didn't know if they would take longer.

I'm hoping they don't!  My surgery is tentatively scheduled for August 11th!
