Whatever fighting you have to do to get your surgery, it will all be worthwhile in the end. So hang in there!
I remember asking my doctor about the filter, and he explained why he thought it was unnecessary. I don't remember what he said at the time, but it made sense and I was fine without it.
I don't really use the protein supplements that much anymore, but when I did I was a big fan of Unjury. They have a mild flavor, and you can mix them with extracts or fruit or decaf coffee to change them up a bit. Its easy to grow tired of ones that are stronger or especially sweet. You can get samples from their website (Unjury.com) but keep in mind that your tastes may change post-op, so avoid making a big investment in any one product.
Good luck!

I love GNC protein - I get the red containers - it is ProPerformance 100% Whey Protein. It comes in 1 pound, 2 pound or 5 pound containers. Start out with 1 pound bags and try a couple of flavors. They have about 10 different flavors. You can try them and if you dont' like them return them within 30 days with your receipt. It is great for trying different flavors. I love the chocolate and hated the cookies and cream. I have heard many like the banana. You can buy a gold card for $15 a year and then you get 20% of your purchases for the first week of each month. That is when I buy my stuff each month. I buy anywhere from 5 - 10 pounds per month, depending on the sales they have that month. This past month I paid $72 for 10 pounds of chocolate and it will last me 2 months.
I use a scoop and a half of the chocolate protein powder in my no sugar added hot chocolate with a little milk. This gives me 35 grams of protein per mug - 2 times per day and that is 70grams of protein just from my hot chocolate - a nice start.

Topic: RE: Dr. Alexander Abkin
Dr Abkin didn't do my gastric bypass but did perform an emergency hernia repair on me in Aug '09. I had just had my second baby and was having extreme adb. pain and went to St Claires Dover ER. The ER doc was not very experienced with gastric bypass pts so he decided to call Dr Abkins to consult. This was 4am. He ordered a CAT Scan and was at the hospital by 5:45 am. Again KNOWING I was NOT his patient. He saved my life. The hernia had begun to strangulate, if I had gone to another ER or waited any longer I would have been in world of trouble. He had me in an OR and into recovery by 8am. He is a little "****y"........ Upon asking him about his credentials he said "Madam I am the head of the Bariatric Program here. I am the BEST" But as a medical professional myself I like a surgeon who is confident in his skills and knowledge. The most amazing part of all of this was that at the time I had medicaid. Dr Abkins doesn't take medicaid. He rushed over to the hospital and allowed me follow ups at his office knowing he would be paid minimally or not at all!!!! GREAT SURGEON, GREAT MAN.
Topic: RE: Looking for support, cheerleading and help :)
Hey there, hon!
I'm sorry you never got any response to this thread. I don't spend too much time over here, and I guess I missed it.
I'll be your supporter, cheerleader, and helper when the going gets rough. But now that I've met you I can see that you are super-strong and so determined, it seems unlikely that you'll need all that much help!
You are an inspiration. Call me any time you start to doubt that!

Hey there yourself!
It was really great to meet you, too. I was so excited when I left that meeting, not only because I'm psyched about the training and race, but also because I felt like I'd made a new friend.
I've been a little distracted today, but tomorrow I'm going to sit down and focus on the TNT website, appointments, and getting myself wrapped around the whole schedule. I'm planning on being at the Montclair training session, but I many, many questions and I hope to get them answered tomorrow during the day.
I am also planning to do the stuffing meeting Monday night. Will you be going to that? I'm sending you a PM with my email address, too!

Hey lady! I'm so excited to run this race with you!!!
You can do this and you will do this :) I'm so happy to have a fellow bypass buddy with me understaing why eating a big plate of pasta will not work the night before :)
It was great to meet you last night and I'm hoping to see you at the training sessions. Will you be going this weekend? I e-mailed Meghan and asked if High Bridge is ok, or if since she will be at the first training session in Montclair I should go to that one.
