Pregnant & Need Help
Hello Everyone
I just found out that I am about 5 weeks pregnant. Due date 11/29/06. Im a bit scared because I only had my surgery 7 months ago. The problem I am having is that I am out of work and have no insurance. I have been turned away everywhere I go for prenatal care. I am at a loss as to what to do. I applied for Medicaid here in NJ and was informed that they are 3 months behind in application processing. Even the free clinics dont have an available appointment until at least June.
And you all know that with our high risk pregnancies we cannot wait 2-3 months for prenatal care.
So if anyone has any suggestions. Please let me know. I am at my wits end as to what to do.
Start: 305
Current: 190
All my love

Hi Kimberly
I am not female, nor do I have experience in pregnancy :P... BUT I thought....perhaps you can call your surgeon, talk to one of the staffers there, (your surgeon of course, but maybe a nurse, or Physician assistant, or one of the females in the surgeons office?) and ask your surgeon or his staff for a referral? Most of all.. dont take no for an answer, keep seeking because you are right, you CANNOT wait because of your post surgery and complications.
I am not sure, but each hospital in NJ (and most states I believe) have a posted notice dealing with refusal of care..... if nothing else I would pick a day when you have lots of time (or perhaps literally the middle of the night.. wacky I know but it depends on the hospital and your availability, some are dead in middle of the night )
...and go to the Emergency room. Now... they MAY see you, or they may triage (a fancy word meaning evaluate) and refer you... but if you dont get some leads or a direction... a path.. then try another hospital.
My heart goes out to you, Kimberly :/ I wish I had the money or the means to help... but I will contact (over the next day or so) some of the contacts I have met (recently in finding a location at St. Barnabas in Lakewood) and ask? I met a couple of registered nurses in my journey with Jack Martin, and perhaps they would have some ideas.
If I get any information I will let you know, okay?
Godspeed, and keep asking lots and lots of questions.. there has to be a solution and maybe we can find one, or someone else here on the board will have some ideas : )
Hang in there
Hugs
Timmy Ray : )
Hi Kimberly,
Congratulations on the blessing coming your way!! My daughter is currently pregnant and due 8/2. She isn't covered under my insurance for pregnancy. We went through NJ Family Care only to find out that she had to go through Bergen County Social Services to apply for emergency care and it is very true they are backed up she applied in January and is still waiting for her insurance card. She is currently going to Specialized in Women's Care (Dr's Cheatam nd Witter) 17 Sylvan St Rutherford NJ 201-438-2824, that accepts NJ Family Care and they advised her on what HMO to pick. She has been paying out of pocket for office visits thus far. We did get a confirmation from Soc.Ser. that she is now in the computer and should receive her cards within 3wks.There are not many dr's who take the NJ Family Care that deliver babies, it took us all of one day to research and found this group. They are very nice to her, her last visit they didn't have her pay. The only problem so far is that the ultrasound place won't release the report to the dr. until they are paid, so waiting for the card. She could have gone through Hackensack Medical Center Clinic but there is a waiting time. She went through them the last time and wasn't happy about how they treated her as a person, like a deadbeat. Call them explain your situation and that you applied and how long they told you it would take. You need to be followed ASAP! Sorry so long and hope this helps!
Hugs,
Lynn
