Thinning Hair
I had my surgery on August 10th of last year and am 93 lbs. down however, I am now experiencing a really nasty case of thinning hair. I would like to know two things. Is there anything I can do to help get my hair back to the way it was and is it okay to dye my hair in this condition? When it grows out it's white so I have the "skunk" look and it's not attractive. Can anyone help??
People will probably tell you to up your vitamins and / or biotin. Really, it is your body's delayed reaction to the stress of the surgery. It will start somewhere around 4 months and slow down at around 8 months. It is earlier for some and later for others. Both of us here have had surgery and we have dyed our hair several times throughout the process, and stayed on top of the roots. We cut down on the amount of times a day we brushed our hair and also cut our hair shorter--all to put less stress on the folicles (sp?). You dont have to cut your hair, but it does help. It took me a while to realize that I was loosing hair because I am a natural redhead (the keratin causes hair to shed more than any hair color). But when I did finally become cognizant of it, I just took it in stride. The hair loss will stop and it will come back. DON'T WORRY!!!
I am 7 months out and it has definately slowed down to just about a normal rate.
Hi Marilyn,
I had this happened to me between 5-7,mos out. I thought I was going bald, I got a shorter style haircut, ate more protein, and took a supplement for hair, skin and nails (Nutrilite). I am 10 mos out now, I have to say I have all new growth now and my hair is getting thicker and fuller. I have colored my hair all along, no problems. I felt at least I am not gray and balding,LOL.

I had surgery 11 monthes ago and I am still losing mine. It seemed to slow a bit but then started right back up. Try not to stress over it. I don't take anything or do anything for it except my regular vitamins. I also make sure I get regular trims which keeps it looking full. It will stop eventually. Hang in there and congrats on your 93 lb. loss.
