Dr. Alexander Abkin Opinions PLEASE

Hi Everyone, My brother is deciding to go forward with GBRNY. His choice of surgeon is not my surgeon, but because of insurance and location he has been directed to Dr. Alexander Abkin of Florham Park NJ. He's out of Morristown Hospital. Has anyone heard of him? Does anyone have an opinion of him (good/bad/indifferent)? Has anyone had surgery with him? I would appreciate any input anyone has. Thanks to all! Susan Suchowski

Hi Susan -- although I do not have any personal information to share, I have head of Dr Abkin -- he has been around for quite awhile, and I haven't heard anything negative about him. Good luck to your brother!

All I can say is wonderful man and wonderful group. I had my surgery with his group last march and would goto no one else. I did quite a bit of research and as soon as I heard this group talk and met the surgeons I knew this was the place for me. The hospital was also wonderful. I think he is making the right decision.

I love, love, love that man! He is a wonderful surgeon and I have not one bad thing to say about him. I had my rny on 10/10/05 and have not had a single complication. I would recommend him to anyone considering wls. Of course, my opinion may be colored by the crush I have on him Seriously though, I couldn't have asked for a better, more skilled, caring surgeon. If you're brother has any questions, I would be happy to answer them. I know there are several others here who can help as well. Carol

i have dr bertha and im going in on the 30th of this month dr bertha works together in the or with dr abkin they are all great

HOLD UP LADIES!!!!!!! I have a SERIOUS crush on Dr Abkin!!!!! With that said I must say that from the first time I met him I felt totally comfortable with him. He is VERY professional and at the same time makes you feel extremly comfortable. I would totally recommend him as a surgeon.

Dr. Abkin did both my surgery and my husband's. We are both very pleased with him. I had to have my gallbladder out 7 months after surgery and he had it scheduled within hours of gettting my ultrasound report from the hospital. (I was moving to Ohio the following week.) The follow up care I received for both surgeries were wonderful. To help ease your mind as well as your brother's go to Dr. Abkin's seminar. It's very informative and you get to meet almost all of the office staff. In addition, they encouraged me to bring family members to my pre-op class so that they can learn all that I'd be going through. It was very helpful for my sister to learn in more detail everything. She also walked away feeling very comfortable with my choice in surgeons and passed the info on to the rest of the family. Best of luck!
