Estimate of payment for Surgery...
Hey it's me again,
One more question...I have Cigna Insurance and they pay 80% of the surgery. Which means I have to pick up the other 20%. Does anyone have an estimate of what I will have to pay? I know each surgeons office is different, but maybe if I had something to go by. Also, I don't have money to pay right out of pocket so do you think I can finance it through the surgeons office??

These are all questions that you need to ask of your surgeon's office. They are the ones that will be processing your insurance for you. They may or may not have financing available. But you should feel comfortable enough to ask them.
In my situation, I have or had a 70/30 split with my insurance company, BUT I ended up only paying about 550.00 for my surgery because of the way the policy determined charges that were subject to the deductible and what charges were paid at a rate other than the 70/30 split, plus the hospital was in-network for me. The hospital charges were WAY more than the surgeon fees.

I tried to find out what my ins paid for Dr Abkin's services a couple of weeks ago. They said they hadn't received the bill yet. I only have a $500 copay, but I was curious about the charges. I know the hospital stay (2 nights) was $26,000 but I haven't gotten the rest of the statements yet. If you really need an estimate, call Dr. Abkin's office. I'm sure they'll be willing to give you the information. Best wishes on your surgery.

All said and done the bills were enormous.. but after insurance figured what it is all worth it was minimal. Everything including testing and hospital and surgery and surgeon fees came to almost $90000 but the insurance broke that down to about $35000 and I paid about $3000.
I had separate bills for hospital, surgeon, testing and multiple docs'.
I had my surgery lap so there were two surgeons and I was in the hospital for the day of surgery and two mornings. The total bills.. I think the hospital tried to charge around $34,000 -- but Horizon paid them $6,000, and I paid them like $400. The surgeons were, I think, about $13500, and they were out of network, so I had to pay about $3600. They just kept billing me and I paid every month. I didn't have to pay anything for the anesthesiologist.
MAKE SURE YOU USE AN IN-NETWORK HOSPITAL AND IN-NETWORK ANESTHESIOLOGIST. Get out your book or go online and find out which network anesthesiologists work at your hospital and provide their names to your surgeon's staff so that they can try to book one that is in-network. They don't know who is or isn't and the selection for surgery on a given day seemed to be pretty random.
Good luck,
Jen
