Bad News
Karen, Im so sorry you're going through this. I gotta tell you, you just went through my biggest fear. I was told a gazzillion times by Aetna that I was covered, then, my doc submitted for pre approval and I was denied and then told "sorry we had to use you as a guinea pig, our reps were uninformed" "you are not covered" This happened in the last few days. I've been barking up every tree possible to get the entire issue ironed out. They're flat out denying me. I am going to a doctor this afternoon to start a supervised diet just in case I appeal and win, even though Aetna once told me that I have enough co-morbidities and don't need verified medically supervised diet proof. Anyway, I know how disappointed I feel right now and I can't even imagine how you must feel. Keep at it, best of luck to you and if you need to ***** about it....I'm here and I'll listen.

Laurel, you are a smart cookie to go to the doctor for a medically supervised diet (you'll need exercise, too). This is one of the requirements that Aetna has. I would urge you to go to your doc once a month - DONT skip a month either. Another thing I think you may need is to prove that you've been morbidly obese 5 years. Hang tight and don't give up!

Irene, thanks, did you say cookie? yum It's the first day of liquid diet from the diet doc. Actually, I'm going to the doc every week instead of once a month. I gotta start losing now...and then I'll lose more when I get the surgery. All out of pocket, ins. doesn't cover any of it. Really makes you wonder, doesn't it. There is no other desease that is so discriminated against. Luckily, or not (according to how I look at it) I have records easily available from my PCP that shows I've been MO for 5 years. I probably also have weight records with her that shows the nutritionists I've been to and diet guidance (or lack thereof) from her over the past many years and probably even on a monthly basis. With all of my co-morbibidities, I see the PCP fairly often. Even have the exercise records, believe it or not. Thirteen months I've been going(ever since I quit smoking) of an hour a day 4-5 times a week. Aquatic exercise and swimming. At my weight, it really the only exercise I can do and it makes me feel better, so I don't mind going.
I thought I had it all under control with the insuramce company, but they find a way to put a snag in it no matter what. We'll see what happens.
Thanks for caring, Laurel
