Hello Everyone. I am looking to move out of New York City. I have lived here all of my life and I need some change. Not only do I need some change, I need some where to live where I don't have to work just to pay rent; get me? I'm a single mother of one lovely 10 Yo boy. I have a decent job and I'm very reliable, I believe rent should be paid before any other luxury. Anyways I was told I could find a decent apartment Upstate New York. I don't know anything about Upstate, I bearly know my area. I need a two bed room apartment where the rent is no more than $800. I was told I could get something real nice for less than $800. I pay over $800 dollars now for rent and I only have one bedroom. Heres the situation, I need something close to the metro north 45 to 60 mins from the city, because I can't I mean I won't leave my job because it pays well. I'm looking to be gone by the end of next year I still have some kinks to comb out. I am a decent hard working person, who doesn't like problems, so don't be afraid to tell me about something in your neighborhood

Have you tried Staten Island? Its a ferry ride (or an express bus ride) to Manhattan. I lived there 30+ years before I bought a home in NJ. You can definately get a 2 bedroom for the price you want, maybe slightly more for a more desireable neighborhood. Try looking at the classifieds at www.silive.com Good luck on your hunt- Janine

Hello Janine : ) Hijack... I saw you live in Freehold NJ, I live not too far away in Jackson. Have you ever attended the support group in Toms River? Its a pretty fun group, it meets the first Friday of every month at Community Medical Center in Toms River , Auditorium A from 7pm -9pm Several of the folks off this board, Jack M, Nannette, Jennifer, (myself) Diedre, Melita, (and some others who I cant remember :P) attend and its a fun group. Anyhow.. my apologies to Gemini Gem... I saw your location and got excited, thought I would say hello, introduce myself, and put in a plug for the OCWLS Support Group meeting the first friday evening each month hehehehehe (we now return to regularly scheduled programming). Take care, nice to meet you :0) Timmy Ray

Gem, There are 2 towns in Hudson County NJ that I can reccommend. I have lived in both Bayonne and Kearny(in Kearny now). You might be able to find a 2 BR possibly in either although Bayonne rents did increase when the lightrail came in. Both have great school systems and are very decent when it comes to crime ratings. Both are very close to NYC and have public transportation systems. I have also lived in Jersey City , born and raised actually, and it still has some nice sections. But the rents are higher and the crime eh. Good luck in your search. Feel free to post again if you need to. Kathy
