support group in northern new jersey?
I HAD LAP RNY ON 6-22-05. THE SURGEON WHO DID MY RNY IS NO LONGER ASSOCIATED WITH THE HOSPITAL I WENT TO. THE SURGEONS PRIMARY OFFICE IS ABOUT AN HOUR FROM MY HOME. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO GET TO THE OFFICE. I LIVE IN BERGEN COUNTY, THEY ARE IN MORRIS COUNTY. TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE, THE SURGEON DOES NOT HAVE EVENING HOURS. CONSEQUENTLLY, I CANNOT GET THERE. I USED ALL MY VACATION/SICK TIME HAVING THE SURGERY.
I NOW SEE A NEW SURGEON ASSOCIATED WITH MY HOSPITAL. HE IS VERY NICE, BUT I DONT FEEL CONNECTED TO HIM, BECAUSE HE DID NOT DO MY SURGERY.
SO I DESPERATELY NEED A SUPPORT GROUP. EXCEPT FOR THIS WEB SITE I FEEL LIKE I AM FLOATING ON MY OWN.
THANKS FOR YOUR HELP...JANET
Well Janet,, cannot offer you much help.. who did your surgery.... maybe it is worth the time and effort to continue seeing him if it makes you feel better/connected.. I think I would. My surgeon only has early morning visits and I rearranged my time at work to see other doctors so now I have to use vacation time to see him..
Dear Janet,
I live in Piscataway and found a wonderful support group down south in Toms River. It was an hour drive, but well worth it. The group met for a whole 2 hours. It was a lot of fun and very informational. I also found another up north in Basking Ridge. I believe it is held the third Thursday of every month at the Old Mill Inn. They have a huge turnout. There is always a main topic for that evening, a nutritionalist on hand to answer any questions and lots of time for getting to know everyone. I would just call the Inn and ask when the next meeting is. I hope this helps. We could always meet at my place and drive down to Toms River too. They meet every last Friday of each month. By the way, that group is having a Walk From Obesity Walk down in Seaside Heights on Sept. 24 at 10:00am. Would be no problem having you share a ride down to get you involved. Hope this helped, and please don't hesitate to e-mail me for more info. or to talk!!!!
All my best, Jen from Piscataway

Hi Janet:
I attend a wonderful support group at St. Barnabas Ambulatory Care Center in Livingston. It sounds like it's closer for you than some of the other options listed and it's open to any bariatric patient. They hold their meetings for patients less than a year out on the first Wednesday of the month. The next meeting is on October 5th @ 6:00pm. Hope this helps.
