Hello. My mom had the laparoscopic RNY 2 years ago and I am scheduled to have my surgery the same way on Sept. 13th. I chose this way because hopefully the surgery will be OK and the scars will be very small. I know that with my surgeon, Dr. Onopchenko, he tells you right from his seminars that we could have the laparoscopic RNY scheduled but, if something happens during surgery he may have to do the open procedure. He leaves both options open because everyone is different. My mom has not had any problems and is doing very well. There is a support group meeting that will be held on the 12th near Pomona and if you attend you can ask any questions you may have about lap band, open and laparoscopic procedures. Hope this helps you alittle. Renee

Hi Maria, Our Dr., Dr. Abkin, is in Florham Park - near Morristown, NJ, and I can HIGHLY recommend him. He does both RNY and Lap band Laproscopically. I'm not sure how far that is from you. I do know of another OH member, and fellow Hospital mate of mine who made the trip to Dr. Abkin from Red Bank NJ. In my opinion, he and his associates and office are very professional, knowlegable, caring and skilled. I would say he was worth the trip! (He and the hopital are 40 minutes from my husband and I who have both had LAP RNY by him) GOOD LUCK IN YOU SEARCH! All the best, Sherri
