Ok.....Im 13 days post-op and I really think I can eat more than the normal 2 week post op person. For dinner I made 5 oz of salmon, a small portion of pork and beans (maybe two spoonfuls ) and some carrots. I probably could have finished the whole thing, but I ate 1/2 of the fish and the rest of everything. Is this normal??????? Maybe my doctor didnt make the pouch small enough. Granted, Im not hungry, im satisfied...but shouldnt i be full??

Hi Tiffany, I thought the exact same thing. I was eating what seemed like HUGE dinners, compared to what everyone else could eat! That lasted about 7 weeks. All of a sudden, I can't eat like that anymore. I think what happens is that your insides are kind of numb. I never felt "FULL". Now I do. Don't worry! I really thought that the doctor didn't complete the surgery! Well, he did! I still don't get that feeling that I am going to gag, but I have learned that if I eat like I was even a few weeks ago, my stomach is Really sore. So now, I slowed down, and eat less. It's worth it! I am sure you will be fine! As long as you are taking weight off. If not, then call your doctor. But if you are, just wait it out. It will catch up with you~ God bless and good luck! Thank you SOOOOOOOO much for your reply....that makes me feel so much better. I thought that I'd just start eating more and more and more, until I was back to my old self. Ive made sure to just eat small portions, and stop, even though I could still eat more. After about 20 minutes, I feel more satisfied. Glad to know that my insides are just numb and need time to heal. So far I'm about 20 lbs down since surgery two weeks ago. I'll tell you though, I feel great. I havent gotten sick or dumped or anything. Although, yesterday I almost puked . I think I swallowed too much at one time and it got stuck. I was praying to either throw up or have it go down....Luckily it went down!

Hi Tiff! I am in the same boat as you are! I am 7 days out and HUNGRY My nutrition papers say that starting tomorrow we should be "full" on 1 ounce - 1/2 cup of full-liquid, but I haven't been FULL yet! Since Monday, I have been eating (3) 1/2 cup meals (full-liquid) per day and still feel hungry (not starving) and eating sugar-free, fat-free jello or sugar-free fat free pudding, or ISOPURE in between my meals (and water). What stinks is following the weight loss of others on this forum and even though this is 10th day of a liquid diet for me, I have only lost a total of 5 pounds. I am trying to be thankful for that, but my girlfriend who got out only 3 days before I did, has lost 23 pounds, no pain & feeling "satisfied". I thought the same things you thought. KEEP UP the good work and just think how good you'll feel around Christimas time. That is what I'm doing. I may only be 5 down but that sure beats 5 up!!!!! Oh! Also!!! They don't put the "fill" in until about a month after your surgery, so you may feel better in the near future! God bless you! ~Wendy

Your right....5 lbs on its better than 5 lbs on!! I dont get a "fill" though. I got the Lap RNY. What I have heard about the band though, is that somtimes it might take a little while before you start losing, and then it kick starts...Maybe thats what your going through? But hey, your still losing ! Good luck..and may the pounds fly off!!

Hi Wendy Most of the people on OH seem to have had the RNY surgery. I would encourage you to come to the Toms River Support Group, there are a couple of Banders in there... we could always use more : ) Be encouraged, as for being **FULL**.. my advice is eat really slowly... try to eat with another person when you can .. conversation helps slow things down and helps me a lot to remember to relax. That, and stop the MOMENT you feel full : ) Another thing is... toss the scale? I dont mean that in a bad way... keep the scale just dont get on it except every two weeks? Seriously. If you simply HAVE to.. hey I understand : ) But the people I have met with the most success are ones that didnt worry about the pounds day to day.. but focused on checking... oh 2 or 3 times a month.. and thats both banders and RNY folks. I weigh once a month... and true I CANT weigh *yet* on a regular scale so its easy for me.. but not worrying about the little day to day sure helps : ) Congratulations on the surgery... you sound like your doing EXCELLENT : ) Be encouraged, you are doing great : ) Hugs Timmy Ray

Hi Tiffany ! Yep thats very normal. I was really terrified, after my surgery, being single at the time, and just really **overwhelmed ** with all the details, rules, requirements.... .....and so I relied almost solely on Protein Whey drinks for my nutrition, and vitamins, because.. -Im male -Sometimes us males ... we b slowww learners (grin) -It just seemed so HARD Protein drinks were a godsend for me but its BEST to get protein from food, and I am thankful to have had a super instructor to teach me the right way Finally : ) Now, having moved to New Jersey and learned the right way... when I started eating regular, normal food, the amounts and types of food you are eating sound **MOST excellent** and right in line with what I did at first and what I could eat. My pouch actually has shrank a little... but that was only because I got really good instruction from my wife (also post op) who is 18 months out.. and I slowed WAYYYY down (I was a gulper)... and started chewing better. It didnt shrink a LOT.. but a little when I slowed down : ) Relax.. eat slowly... chew well... dont drink when you eat... wait 1/2 hour after eating to drink..... and stop when your full.... thats what works best for me. It sounds like your ON TRACK and doing good. Godspeed, and be encouraged, you are making good choices sounds like! Hugs Timmy Ray
