I had surgery on Wednesday (GastrictBypass) and I was sent home on Friday. I feel no pain from the surgery , but I feel that I have no strength and I m very light headed. I am trying to drink liquids, but I can't drink more then two ounces at a time. How long is it going to take before I can drink more then a few ounces of liquid? What should I do? Any recommendations out there would be appreciated.

Hector, I am only two weeks ahead of you but I remember that light-headed feeling very well. I felt no actual hunger but I would feel weak and sometimes a little dizzy, like before surgery when I hadn't eaten in a long time. I found that when I would have a good, homemade chicken or beef broth, I always felt better. The nurse at my surgeon's office confirmed that eating some protein should help. I was also told that drinking lots of sweet drinks (even though they are sweetened artificially) can trick the body into thinking it's having sugar and give you that same low sugar feeling when your insulin levels drop. Anyway the feeling went away after the first week of liquids and I progressed to pureed foods. Good luck!

Hector, You and I had surgery on the same day. I also came on on Friday and I am still very weak. I asked around and was told we will feel this way for about 4-6 weeks. After that our strength will return. It is because we are only eating several hundred calories a day compared to about 2000 pre-op. It will get better after we can go on pureed foods next wee****il then , drink your protein drinks everyday. I drink Isopure. Each bottle gives me 40 grams of protein. Well, hope this helps a bit. Good luck to you. Joanne
