Well, this is nothing like I thought it would be. I have been very depressed lately. The surgery was much worse than anticipated, and the results are much less than I thought. I really thought it would be 6-12 months before I could eat normally again. & I seem to be able to eat anything! I haven't even been losing weight now. & Its only been 3 weeks. Maybe things will change, but right now all I can say is that I regret this. It hasn't done what I had expected it to do. I know that I need some will power, but if I had that I wouldn't have needed this surgery. If I could have done it on my own I wouldn't have needed to do this terrible thing to my body!

You must also realize that the surgery is just a tool, not a quick fix. Hopefully you're at least eating LESS. Starting to exercise might help if you haven't done that yet. Like AA, it works if you work it.

Marta, I see you are in Essex County, so am I. I am in the process of gathering information on the surgery. Why did you chose the Dr. that you did, did you do research or was it word-of-mouth? What hospital is he affiliated with? I went to my doctor today to discuss my intentions of gastric bypass and a breast reduction. He said he is Jaded against the bypass surgery because of the results of 2 of his patients. However, I truly do desire to have this surgery. I am 270 and tired of carried this weight around. I have tried every diet on this earth... My doctor asked me to try one last diet, I was willing until I read about "Pre-packaged" foods... Anyway, neighbor, if you can enlighten me in any way, I would appreciate it! email: [email protected] or [email protected] Thank you. Bea.

Hi. I haven't had my surgery yet, I am having it done by Dr. Onopchenko in Galloway Twp. But, I know with my doctors group they insist on you going to support groups before and after surgery. Maybe you should try attending some of these now. They are free and there are all types of people who attend. You can ask any questions and even ask for personal support. I actually have to attend one tomorrow night as part of my pre-op schedule. I have to look exactly to see where my support group is located, I think its near Pomona (could be wrong). I also have to attend 7 nutrition classes before surgery and 12 classes after surgery to help learn how to eat healthy. My sister in law had surgery thru your group and I don't remember her having to go thru as much as I am. I don't even remember if your doctor even made her goto nutrition classes or support group sessions? I know you mention that you are eating. Even though we have different surgeons (and I havent had my surgery yet), your surgeon should of gave you the guidelines to follow for what to eat each week. I honestly don't think being only 3 weeks post you should be eating like you say you are. My mom was on liquid protein & broths the first week, puddings & shakes the second and then toast, egg & soups for the 3rd week. Nothing drastic or in big quanity of course. My mom lost 21 pounds in the first 5 days. Then at about her 3rd week mark she had already lost between 35-40 pds total. Everyone is different. I am not an expert on any of this especially because we are all different and handle situations differently. The reason I know something about the surgery is because of course, my sister in law had it with your group and my mom had the surgery done with the group I chose and a close relative of mine is a surgeon in this field, who will remain nameless. Just because you had the surgery done in (im guessing) bridgeton or Regional Medical Center, doesn't mean you can't goto the support groups that my group sorta runs. Seems you really need help because your depressed about the choice you made. I would even suggest maybe talking to a psychologist to help get you focused and back on track. (I see someone in Bridgeton who I really like. If your interested, I will give you her name)Its not too late to get on track. This should be a fun time for you, not a depressing time. This surgery is to help aid in weight loss (far better than any weight programs around). It doesn't do it all for you, you have to learn how to help yourself and be strong when it comes to food. Once you see the weight coming off, I know you will be more determined and happier. Its just setting your mind to do it. You had this life changing surgery for a reason. Don't just give up and throw it away. You went through all the pain and each day has gotten better. It will get easier for you as the days go by. The first year is supposed to be your "golden" year to lose. After that is when the weight loss slows down. Get on track and take an advantage of it! Help is out there for you...nutritionists, support groups and even the psychologists! WOW...sorry I blabbed!!! I actually had some time to sit at the computer. 2 little ones are sleeping and so is my husband. I really hope this little bit of info helps you.

Hi! I'm sorry you are having a tough time of things. I think it might be a little of the let down after surgery. All the hype going into it and then here you are...what to do? I know I have had days when I feel left out because I can't eat with everyone else. I've had self pitty parties because I know I can't eat what I want. I am not an expert...and I am only 6.5 weeks out...but it will get better. Just keep your chin up and listen to Dr. Pas. If you want to e mail me or if I can help you please let me know. Shaun

I just said a prayer for you... Please don't be discouraged. I am in the process of doing research and gathering as much info as I can about the surgery. Be encouraged! Bea
