Hi Maria, There are so many doctors out there who are concern about YOU. Don't feel that you have to stick with that the one doctor. I live in Newark also, but my PCP is in Princeton, where I work. (I know he's approved a few of my co-workers for the WLS) I actually have an appt. with him on July 8th to discuss WLS. I have so many mixed emotions about this; excitment, nervousness, shame....etc. Keep searching for a doctor who meets your needs. I encourage you to do what you need to do. It can be extremly frustrating to decide to do something and reach a road block. Let me know how you make out and I will do the same: [email protected] God Bless!

I know you're in Newark - my PCP is in Succasunna (near Rockaway) NJ (Morris county). I don't know that he'd recommend GBS wholesale without actual medical need, but he was *incredibly* supportive in my quest. His name is Dr. Peter Sher. P~ "Life is too short to wear sensible shoes!"

How tall are you? If you currently only weight 168 and you have no comorbids even if you get your PCP's approval you may have a hard time finding a surgeon who will perform your surgery. I weight over 300 about 315 right now and folks look at me they see 200 to 230 lbs. I am happy that I wear the weight well. I have many ways of comouflaging the fat but its there alive and growing. I am getting surgery as a prevenative everyone in my immediate fam and extended is obese and has been for most of their adult life. Most of them have serious illness (S) as a result of being obese. This is my only hope. I understand your dilemma and I wish you well but please do as much research as possible and make sure you are a candidate. Not all fat folks need to have bypass to loose weight and keep the weight off. Bypass is for extreme measures and after reading your brief profile in my candid opinion your situation is not extreme at all. Diet and excersize may be the key for you. You need to be dedicated. Dont use bypass as an easy way out because from speaking to several people who had the procedure performed its not easy at all its a life altering experience not to be taken lightly. regardless I wish you well.

Hey Yvette, There were some typos in my profile, I weight 268 not 168(I WISH!) lol I wish you the best in your surgery, I see that its about to come up on the 26th,,,, I'm thinking using Dr Capella as well, I'm going to the information meeting on the 12th, can I ask you what convinced you to use him? Thanks, Maria.

I used Bergen Bariatric at Englewood Hospital in Englewood. They are excellent. They have a whole new wing. They have a gym, nutrionist. The surgeons are top notch. They are not in any insurance though. But I think they will work with you. They are truly caring and not just in it for the money.
