A Blessing or a Curse?!?!??
Hey all,
I had laparoscopic RNY at Hackensack hospital with Dr. Trivedi on June 13th. Magnifficent! I have to say, I had a wonderful experience. I was back at work part time, 5 days later. Here is my question:
I am about 12 days post op at this point, and it seems I can eat anything I want. Well, I don't eat anything with sugar (aside from natural sugar or that in a small yogurt). I am not eating anything really crazy like a carrot stick or a bag of nuts! But I have eated watermelon, fish, chicken, steak, scallops, shrimp, crab.. of course, in small quantities. Is this normal?? I hope they didn't get something wrong in there. Nothing makes me feel ill. (That's not true..the only thing that occasionally doesn't feel well, is WATER!! It figures, right?!?)
I am chewing very well, and have slowed down my eating tremendously, but kind of wonder what is up with this. Everyone I speak to has had a tough time with SOMETHING. I know I should count my blessings, and believe me, I do!! Over and over! The only thing is that I want to make sure I am ok. That I don't have some mistake in there. I guess it sounds crazy for me to be concerned about that fact that I CAN eat, but I am just curious. I always had a cast iron stomach, but I didn't think that little pouch came in cast iron!
Please share your thoughts with me! Thanks so much!

Rossana, I don't know if you should be eating all that in just 12 days. I came home on a liquid diet for the first week and the 2 week was soft foods such as eggs, oatmeal, jello, and yogurt but low sugar. So time the doctors that make that pouch small enough. I still have problems eating shrimps at 6 months post-op. I say you better watch that food intake if you want to be successful. Sugars have to go. Everything should be sugarfree and soda a definite no no. Crystal lite is good to drink and diet teas. Exercising is very important for success. I was 265 lbs at 5'2 and I'm down to 187 lbs in 6 months, still have about 45 lbs to go.
