Slightly grahic, but important
Hey there everyone!
I am offically a POST-OP!! I had a RNY (laparoscopic) at Hackensack hospital on June 13th. I have to say, I did extreemly well. I did have one thing to mention, though. It's sort of a private matter, but I think we need that here, cause noone talks about these things!
In this first phase of the post-diet, we are on clear liquids. Most of what we take in contains artificial sweetener. I have to tell you, even without ANY solid food, I am still running to the bathroom a couple of times a day, with BMs of totally liquid consistancy. I am sorry this is kind of gross, but it's important to other post-ops. Try to include more plain water and broth without any of that stuff in it. I think that when it makes up a principal part of your dietary intake, it really does a watoosie on your tummy! Maybe it's just me!
Also, I am one week out today. How long till I will be put on something other than liquid..anyone know? Ok, hope this helped someone out! It kind of worried me that I was taking these trips to the bathroom, till I realized that it was the sweetener!
Take care and keep losing!

There's no problem with posting what your experiences are/were. I had surgery 11 mos ago, and had the opposite reaction. No diarrhea at all. In fact, my bowels fell asleep and my blood pressure was sky-high from the intra-abdominal pressure. I had to take laxatives to try to "wake up" things!
As far as the liquid diet, you should check with your surgeon. They all do things slightly differently and they will suggest what they find works best for their patients. Some have their patients do liquids and protein shakes for a month or more, others have patients eating solids in the hospital right after surgery.

Rossana,
well io wasthe same way, once I advance to full liquids like cream soup the deadly "dukes" as we say in my falily! LOL! Once I advanced to full liquids with cream soups I had no problem, no if anything I have to do a stoll softner now and then as constipation is an issue so hang in there once you start something with starch it should check the "dukes"

Hi, I had mine in Englewood Hospital 3 years ago. I had the same problem. It was so bad that some times I didn't make it. Graphic also. It was rough. I was on antibiotics so could have been that. They never really said what caused it. My surgeon had a plan set. Protein shakes for a week or two. Then pureed food for a while and then soft foods. He started off slow because he said they need the pouch to start healing. I couldn't do puree so I had filet of sole, eggs, soup and stuff like that. You have to start slow. Hope the tummy problems are over soon. I remember it was embarassing and annoying. Good luck with your recovery.
