Thirst
Hey Ya'll
I was wondering, I had surgery 9 days ago and I feel like no matter how much I sip and drink during the day, and it doesn't matter what liquid it is, I'm always thirsty. Has anyone else had this problem? I finally went and got some of the sugar free popcicles and they do seem to help. But I doubt the idea is to live on them. Darn!
Any ideas? I was a big drinker before the surgery, I usually got about 2-3 liters a day of water in. I don't know if that has something to do with it or not. But I have noticed that my skin is getting dry.
Thanks so much!!
Brightest Blessings
Heather
Dear Heather,
How about drinking Propel or FruitH20 "sports" waters that have electrolytes, etc. but few calories.
The dry skin suggests to me not so much dehydration as malnutrition. Are you taking any kind of liquid vitamin supplements? And liquid calcium supplements?
If none of this makes a difference, call your doc's office first thing Tues. morning.

i have diabetus insipudus, that is where i flush a lot of water routinely, i have a low level of hormone from the pituitary gland that reabsorbs water in the kidneys thus it flush out, we do see a problem post op, but there are med i may go back on, the point i'm attempting make is that i have a familarity with fluid in the body, the first thing i do is always observe the color of my urine, easier for us guys, hope u got a white toilet, , straw yellow is perfect , bottled water clear,no, dark golden ale, no, another sign of dehydration (im a emt) is pressing a finger nail and noting how fast it recovers color, or a pinch if skin smooths out.
you may be a little low on your salts. as your now adjusting your intakes, try some pediolite, gatoraid. it can help retain some water.
call the doc.
