I read many posts before my surgery about people having such a hard time with their insurance companies approving surgery. I thought I was in for a nightmare. I got lucky though and was approved the same day the paperwork was submitted. Now I am wondering, does BMI have anything to do with insurance approval? It just seems that people with a BMI of around 35-40 have trouble getting approval. My BMI was 58. Do you think insurance companies mainly base their approval on your degree of fatness?

I am sure that is once consideration. I have a BMI of 59.1 it was over 60! So I am knocking on deaths door!

My insurance, like most it seems, requires a BMI of 40 or higher to approve surgery or 35-39.9 with comorbidities.
