hello, i feel as if i know everyone. i have been clicking my way through this site for over a month gathering all the info you so willingly give. i am going to morristown for an appointment with drs abkin/bertha OPIONS WELCOME... i have bcbs excellus and just read the band is still investigational..do you think i have a chance at surgery???

I had my surgery March 29th with Dr Pupkova and Bertha. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THEM!!!!! The office staff was great and Morristown hospital was right up there with them. The nursing staff is well versed with patients that have had this type of surgery and are very very understanding. I never felt rushed in the office with the doctors and had all my questions answered. I came in for my first week follow up and was greated with a big hug and smile. I don't think I have ever seen someone in that office without a smile or friendly comment. I don't know about the issues you are having so that I can not answer. I also had RNY and am very happy I had that and not the band. GOod luck in your journey. Eileen

Hi and welcome! Whether or not the band is "investigational" I think has more to do with what your particular insurance company wants to pay for/ reject. Also wanted to comment (since you asked), you should look into and consider Dr. Gritsus in Lincoln Park 973-696-9050. He was FABULOUS, and his practice is small and personal, staff is friendly, helpful, and overall great. I went to the seminars of both Dr. Bertha and Dr. Gritsus, and ended up feeling most comfortable with Dr. Gritsus. I never ended up meeting Bertha, but I did meet Dr. Pupkova, whom I liked very much and would have considered if I could not have had Dr. Gritsus for some reason. Ultimately, I felt the most confident in Dr. Gritsus, and felt his approach, size of practice, aftercare, etc. were a better match for me.
