Starting my journey
Hi,
I am just starting my weight loss journey. I had my initial appointment on Monday. I just made the appointments for the psychological and nutritional clearance. I need a Gastro, Pulmonary and Cardio clearance too. I am penciled in for June 1st if all goes well with the clearance and my insurance. I think the insurance will give me the biggest problems. I really need this. I have been overweight/obese all my life. I wanted to connect with other people who have or are going to have the lap band. The doctors can say anything, but it's the people who have gone thru it, I think, that would be the biggest support. Thanks for listening.
Joan,
HI !! I too am pre-op and have not even gotten as far as you have. I also live very close by ( I bounce back and forth between Lyndhurst and Kearny). I am also going with the band. There are some wonderful people on these boards !!! You will get more LapBand stories on the LapBand Forum. Pop over there and post a message. You will get tons of replies.
Welcome to our world !!

Hello Joan & Kat,
We all seem to be in a simular boat my first appt. was on Tuesday of this week. I have all my test scheduled for 4/14. I dont have a tentative date yet as I am in no rush to have this done. I am taking it slow, making sure this is the right thing for me to do. I have been to an information seminar at Englewood Hospital here in NJ. I met with a surgeon as well as pre-op and post-op patients. I like to deal with physical people more so than online support groups (both) are great.
Well I will keep posting and reading stories because they do help. One of my good friends had the surgery in Novemeber she already lose 75 lbs she looks and feels great.

Hi Kathy and Yvette,
Nice meeting you. I myself am a bit nervous about doing this, but the more I read others' posts and see before and after pics, I know I really need to do this for myself, my health and my children. It's also nice to know that you are both so close to me. I am seeing Dr. Strom in Montclair and will be having the surgery at Mountianside Hospital. I chose the Lap Band because it seems the least risk of complications. I have made my appointments with the Pulmonary and Gastro. Doctors. I have to call for the Cardio..and hopefully everything will be a green light.
Good luck to both of you and I hope we can keep in touch.
Joan
