I'm looking for a Qualcare participating surgeon. If anyone out there has any names or suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. The surgeon I have in mind does not participate and I'll be responsible for my deductible and 30%. Please help, I want to have surgery as soon as possible. Thanks!!!!

My surgeon was Dr. Vadim Gritsus in Lincoln Park. I have no idea what insurance he participates in, but I would highly recommend him. Just wanted to mention, if you go to the top of the page and click on "Find a Bariatric Surgeon", you can put in for NJ and see quite a long list of surgeons.... they typically show which insurance plans they have recently participated with. If you don't find any w/yours you'll have to start making phone calls! Alternatively, you could get in touch with your insurance co. and ask for a list of bariatric surgeons in NJ who participate with them. They should provide it to you without problems. Good luck!

Dr David Ward, Morristown and Somerville offices. He's with Allied Surgical and is a surgeon on this board! He's a great surgeon; (I experienced little pain), gentle and warm and extremely caring and efficient. Contact the office to check Qualcare at 973-267-6400. R.

Qualcare should be able to tell you if your policy covers surgery and what surgeons, if any, are in-network. The insurance companies don't pay much so it is common for surgeons to not participate in insurance networks. If the surgery is covered, your insurance will pay out of network benefits and you would have to negotiate with the surgeon for the remainder of their fee(s). Make sure that you go to an in-network hospital (the hospital bill is three times what the surgeon's fee is) and make sure your surgeon books the surgery with an in-network anasthesiologist. It is helpful if you provide a list of the in-network anasthesiologists at your chosen hospital to the doctor's staff -- otherwise, your surgery could be randomly assigned to an anasthesiologist who's scheduled to be at the hospital that day but is not in your insurance network. Good luck, Jen
