I saw my Dr. 5 wks ago and they just yesturday got in thouch with Aetna about me...Everytime I had called the ins. they told me they haven't heard from the Dr. office yet. But yesturday when I called the Dr.'s office they were on the phone with the ins. as we spoke ....An hour later I got a call form the Dr.'s office, the ins. wants 2 years records from my PCP ....At least now I feel that there is hope..............

Have you met all the requirements for Aetna? Specifically they require the usual BMI and/or co-morbidities plus either 6 months of physician supervised diet and exercise program OR a multidisciplinary surgical preparatory program. They are requesting the 2 years of your medical records so they can look for the charts and physician notes that would document that. I did the surgical prep and I was denied 2 times by a nasty thing! I had to make a complaint about the way my case was handled to get somewhere! I suspect that your case won't be the nightmare that mine was. Best! irene

I just got my approval from Aetna and it took me less than two months. Here's what I gathered and the surgeon's office submitted: a letter of recommendation from my PCP, my charts showing a six month doctor supervised diet with monthly weigh ins and BP checks (I also added Weigh****chers Online weight history for 9 months and proof of payment), my charts for the past five years showing a history of obesity and co-morbidities (in my case, hypertension, high cholestrol and joint / back pain), psych consult, and nutritionist consult. When I spoke with the nurse advocate who told me I had been approved, I told her I had heard such horror stories about trying to get approval from Aetna. She told me that I had given them exactly what they required and as soon as they received the five year history, they approved it within minutes. Good luck, and check out their website for the requirements.
