HELP! How do I find a surgeon who accepts my insurance?

Aetna Managed Choice POS? Reviewing the Aetna website, I could not locate any bariatric surgeons within a 50 mile radius. I tried searching every way I could, even by different specialties. I also called Aetna and they explained it might go "out of network" but would probably be approved anyway. I've tried searching this site to see who else in my area has the same plan, but I'm not having much luck. I have an appointment with my PCP on Thursday and I'd like to at least have a name (or two) of surgeons I'd like to see.

I think Dr. Tichansky might take your insurance. I would try him 732-274-3434. Good luck. He is a great surgeon and very well qualified.

Hi Donna, Thanks for your reply. I called Dr. Tichansky's office and was told they only accept Medicare. It looks like I can go out of network, which would give me more out-of-pocket expense, but I still need an out-of-pocket referral from my PCP. This is so confusing. Every surgeon in this area I've called so far is telling me the same thing.

Hi Christine, I don't know where Manville is, but I live in northern NJ. I had Aetna and had to go out-of-network for WLS. If you want, you can call my surgeon's office: 973-696-9050 (Dr. Vadim Gritsus). Talk to Linda, she is a whiz with the insurance. She really helped me. I was approved by Aetna. I'm 3 months postop. Manville is located in Somerset County, which is Central (Western) NJ.

Christine, I was told (by my insurance co.) that if I had to go out of network due to no practicing doctors in the area, that the in-network pay plan would apply. I have Horizon BCBS of NJ, but I would assume it is the same across the board. I found a doctor in network and ended up with a great experience, I will hope for the same for you!! Good Luck!! Hi, I also have Aetna and I am an employee of Aetna. When you log onto Aetna Navigator they don't have any doctors listed for this type of service. What you can do is call the customer service number and they can find one in your area, also I am going to see a doctor in South Jersey named Dr. Pasupathy. You may want to call them and ask if he has any associates in your area. Good Luck and feel free to email me.

I live in Central Jersey (Toms River) and also have Aetna -- Open Choice PPO -- I used United Surgical (Drs. McMullen and Nicastro) in Staten Island. They were in network and were great - they also handled on the insurance submissions and I got approved in a week.
