Ever since I had my RNY on 2-9-04, I have had horrible bad breath. I brush my teeth like 4-5 times a day trying to get rid of it. My husband thinks it is not in my mouth, but from my digestive tract. Has anyone else experienced this? It also makes it harder to drink water as it takes funny.

I had the exact same problem. I did a little research online, and the reason I was getting bad breath is because it's a side effect from the prevacid. See this link ( http://www.pdrhealth.com/drug_info/rxdrugprofiles/drugs/pre1348.shtml ) Honestly, nothing worked to get rid of it. I HATEd it because I had that metallic taste in my mouth. But it will go away soon.

It's also caused by going into ketosis. After you have the surgery, we eat very little carbs in the beginning and that can cause you to lose ketones and one of the side effects of that is bad breath. Hang in there, it will go away with time. Try some sugar-free gum if you feel really self-conscience. Denise
