in round figures my fee was $35,000 (HUMC). My insurance covers 90%, my out of pocket max is $1000 a year. I owed Hackensack $700.

Although I live in NJ, I had surgery in NY -- Aetna PPO and Dr was on preferred provider list -- I have only laid out co-pays for Dr visits - nothing else!

Hi Kathy: I used in network providers, so there was no out-of-pocket for me, except $20 co pays for visits, etc... The total bill from Hackensack Hospital was $30,085.49... The surgeon, Garth Ballantyne, MD was $10,946.00... The anesthesiologist was $2,400.00... I had Lap RNY... Hope this helps you...

Good question. I had lap-band at St. Barnabas Hospital with Dr. Michael Nusbaum. He charged $7,500, the anestiologist asked for $5,000 and the hospital wanted $20,000. Cigna PPO gave everybody only about 10% of what they billed for and they accepted it as 100% payment. It did not cost me a penny. No wonder the doctors are dropping Cigna like a bowling ball. Cigna was God awful to work with but at least they will not bill me for the difference. Good luck.
