Ah yet another question I forgot to ask the doc. Does anyone know how affective the birth control pill for a person who had the RNY surgery?

I'd be interested in this too. I had heard from a friend that someone she knows ended up pregnant because the pill she used wasn't as effective any longer. Further I"m on several medications for depression. I asked my surgeon and he replied that I had to ask my MD. which kind of irked me. Anyway, looking forward to responses to this question. Thanks from bringing it up EraDee.

My GYN thinks that we don't absorb the pill that good after the surgery. She didn't research or anything. So, she put me on the patch. It seems to be working good. I had never had any symptons that come with that time of the month until after the WLS. So, I've been on the patch for about three months. So far so good. So, you may want to discuss the patch with your GYN.

I was thinking about that...or the Norplant or maybe...do ya think they can just rip all that plumbing out when they're in there? ROFLMAO!!! Ahem. I think there's a shot now too...

Norplant is actually off the market. The shot you are referring to is called Depo Provera and I hear that a lot of patients either switch to the Depo Provera or the patch. Quite frankly, with two small children already, I don't want to find out the hard way that the pill is no longer effective for me! I think post-op I will try the patch.
