Couple of questions

I have had my initial consultation and he wants me to get an Upper GI and a sleep study. I need to go to my General Physician which is tomorrow. First, what is the Upper GI for? I do know about the sleep study. Also, what should my General Physician have documented? I want to make sure I tell her everything tomorrow so that she has it written down. I have a feeling that my insurance company is going to be tough and I'd appreciate any pointers you can give me to help me along! Thanks

My guess is the upper GI is checking for any uclers or esophogus damage (excuse the spelling!). As for what your PCP should document, hopefully she's been documenting your weight loss struggles during the years you've seen her. If you took any kind of weight loss meds, be sure she has that in your records, some insurances, (AETNA especially) will want proof of you taking any of those kinds of meds, if you say you've taken them. I wish you lots of luck as you begin your journey - take one day at a time and take deep breaths when you get frustrated! Denise
