Ok so I need some help! I live in south jersey in camden county I need help finding a psych. who does bariatric evals. It is the only thing I need to do still and then my surgeon can submit everything to my insurance company for hopefully an approval! The psych they referred me to is only open twice a wk and requires 2 sessions @ 100$ each session. Well they just canceled both of my appointments and said their next opening is in august! I cant wait that long! Every psych I have called so fay says they dont do wls sessions! I need some help to I can start my weight loss journey
Thanks!

ps I know I dont come on here much but when I do everyone is very helpful!! TY!!

I am just starting out in the process too, but I did ask for details about the psych eval because I was concerned about it too.  The surgical coordinator said it does not have to be a psych that specializes is bariatrics or weight loss at all.  The psych eval just needs to confirm that you are of sound mind while you're making this decision to undergo surgery, and that you are mentally capable of making this decision.

That's what I was told, anyway.  Since it's just one appointment, they should be able to ask you a series of simple questions that will attest to your mental capacity.  I have my appointment next Friday, and I'm hoping it goes smoothly!

Good luck!
You can't go back and make a brand new start, but you can start from now and make a brand new end.

I agree...you don't need a bariatric psych.

This might be a dumb suggestion because you've already done it, but right over there

is a list of resources and a link to "other professionals".

I hope you can find something/someone in there who an help, not hinder, your journey!!

Back when I got approved, NJ BC/BS accepted evals from licensed clinical social workers  (LCSW), not just psych docs.  The one I used was way cheaper, and was able to type her eval and get me a letter right after our appointment.    It may be easier to get an appontment with one of them.   Mary C

ok thank you.. the one my coordinator referred me to specializes in wls patients but I have tried to look elsewhere as I said an asked if they could give me a clearance for wls and was told no by all. I will have to call my coordinator and let her know what is going on and that I need help to get this going! Thanks everyone :)
