If you have Verizon they can take your old phone and transfer everything to your new phone right in the store.  Saved me many times!!

do they still charge? i was supposed to be able to do it via backup assistant but my outdated laptop is giving me a hard time! im about to buy a new one and throw this one out the window!

If both phones have bluetooth, you can transfer them via bluetooth.
